1/2 For #NationalHedgehogDay we’re sharing Hilda’s story. She was found as a juvenile wandering in a road in December weighing just 316g. She was very underweight & dehydrated and had ringworm.

This little Egyptian faience model of a hedgehog is from a tomb at Abydos, and was made around 1,500–1,300 BCE.

Hedgehogs had a favourable reputation in ancient Egypt, and were often seen as a symbol of rebirth and renewal of life.

We don't have groundhogs in the UK, but we do have hedgehogs. And it's both National Hedgehog Day & Groundhog Day.
So happy hog day! This is injured hedgehog Herbert, whom I rescued and, after time at a rescue centre, happily returned to the wild.
