We experienced an excellent field trip today — WWI education program at Ruthven Park National Historic Site. I taught about WWI for a decade or so, but I still learned a lot of new things today from Andy Robertshaw. Fantastic! #PandemicHomeschool

The Vampyre begins the descent of vampirism into a stand-in for fascist elements.

Ruthven is an aristocrat who travels to London. The gentleman, Aubrey, meets with Ruthven and they travel Europe. Ruthven tends to destroy everyone and everything he meets. He's a womaniser, a flirt and a murderer

The separate, Aubrey meets a Greek Woman, Ianthe, who tells him about the vampire origins. Someone kills her with a dagger, and many people believe it's a vampire that did it.

Re-enter Ruthven, who nurses Aubrey back to health. They're attacked by highwaymen, and Ruthven seemingly dies.

Aubrey loses his mind and dies, Ruthven makes off with a petty earldom, Aubrey's sister is dead and drained of blood.

Before Ruthven dies, he says he'll return a year and a day later if Aubrey doesn't mention his name. He dies in bed.

Among his possessions, Aubrey finds the dagger sheath. Ruthven killed Ianthe.

Aubrey goes to London, and SURPRISE! Ruthven is alive and engaged to Aubrey's sister.

Long story short, Lord Byron had *problems*. Part of why I cited mental health issues is because the dude was probably thick with them.

Shelley based elements of Doctor Frankenstein off him, and Polidori based Lord Ruthven (the titular Vampyre) off Byron

And so we have another part of Vampire == Fascism. A foreigner bringing plague comes to steal away the good women of society. An aristocrat ruins the lives of everyone they touch.

Ruthven, Carmilla, Dracula and Orlock. The strangers who can only exist by convincing you to let them in and surrender

So, this is a bit of a spoiler for later installments of Shadows Over Ravenkirk, but entirely predictable, considering the source material

Fun Historical Fact: The Salvation Army opened a mission in Ravenkirk, ME in 1932

It closed after six months and thirteen days, which is coincidentally about how long it took for Dolores Ruthven to get bored with them

Belinda Pickman-Ruthven, youngest of the Ruthven family, serves various characters as whatever the opposite of a conscience is. Chucky’s Alyvia Alyn Lind, playing a couple years younger, would be great.

Historian Harold James Ruthven Murray pinned down the closest origin of modern chess from an ancient board game played in India during the 6th century. However, other historians believe that chess originated from another game played in ancient Persia around the 7th century.

Lo de escribir un #fanfiction no es algo tan moderno.
Aquella novelita le flipó tanto que escribió una continuación: "Lord Ruthven o los vampiros" (1820) y, ese mismo año, compuso un melodrama junto a otros dos colgados como él.
