#binational
Yeah this even extends to discussion of solutions, like "binational state" is an extremely vague term that could mean anything from a Belgium/Bosnia-like confederation (likely what it would actually look like) to a USA/South Africa-like unitary state! (likely what most picture)

I really don't see the value in litigating binational state vs. two-state solution vs. confederation, etc. when that's completely irrelevant to doing something about the current atrocities.

only 12% of palestinians support a binational democracy, whereas 47% support the two-state solution. supporting two states _is_ supporting palestinians.
There is not a single political party or mass movement in Palestine that advocates for this idea. Or in Israel for that matter.

A British politician making such statement is doing imperialism pure and simple. Giving up on an independent Palestinian state is for Palestinians to decide on. Not you.

I am personally heartsick that one of the greatest binational synergies in world history is being disrupted over utter nonsense, but the combination of Trump's aggression and incompetence leaves us no other choice.

This is part of our unique binational folie à deux, though, isn't it. Canadians would, did make an effort for Québec, and however odd it had the desired effect.

There's no way we make an effort for Alberta. Just none. They bring nothing, add nothing. Rather than make us more ourselves, it's less.

3. You can support ideas like a one state solution, which would see a binational Israeli/Palestinian state for all peoples in the region regardless of religion or ethnicity

Whether Israelis/Palestinians actually want it is another matter, but you can support the idea without being antisemitic

I've had something rattling around in my head all week about this sort of thing happening to White Houses that antagonize Canada, but honestly? My binational ass is too sad to pull off the joke

for sure and that's why I don't believe in any form of a Jewish state that needs to maintain a demographic majority. I think we can exercise our self determination in a binational state (or secular democratic state, whatever you wanna call it).

I’m almost tempted to start describing my politics as “Buberian binational cultural Zionism” just to make everyone on all sides of the aisle hate me.

Binational state has been something that people just sort of laugh off for a long time now but I always felt like it wasn’t that implausible really. Idk if it’s really the best solution but I think it deserves attention

i define zionism as both the supplantation of yiddishkeit by jewish nationalism and the colonization of palestine, ultimately via the dispossession of palestinians. yes, zionism used to be ideologically broader, encompassing non-statist and binational zionisms, but that era is long dead and buried.

I mean, Jesus, Reagan didn't say "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall and hammer out terms for a binational plebiscite on reunification with years-long negotiation on processes agreeable to both regions, including a federal stimulus to ease the economic shock for the relatively impoverished East whil

It's a pipe dream, but it would be very funny if Chuck's reaction to this is to just say "fuck it" and come out 100% for a Palestinian state, an arms embargo, BDS, and hell, even a single binational state. Replace the Baileys with the Barghoutis.

Actual "birth tourism" is rare. By this estimate, less than 1000 per month before the pandemic, cut in half in 2020 (foreign-born women who said they reside outside US). But lots of binational folks have a US residence, travel back and forth and plan to deliver here link.springer.com/article/10.1...

People use "anti-Zionism" to mean everything from "Every Jew needs to go back to Poland" to "One binational state with protections for both communities," which is why I don't find blanket statements of either "Anti-Zionism is antisemitism" or "anti-Zionism is not antisemitism" particularly helpful.
October 3, 2025 at 2:39 PM
Correspondingly, people use "Zionism" to mean everything from "drive the Palestinians into the sea" to "binational state".
Neither term is able to unambiguously communicate an actual person's actual beliefs, so they both need to be retired.
