That's the thing, though, we know explicitly why she put the domovoi...sorry, house elves into the story to begin with. Arthur Weasley outright says it, "if you want the measure of a man, don't look at how he treats his equals, look at how he treats his inferiors."

My v senior pupper often barks at strategic spots in the house: doorway where I swear I felt Hecate while ma was getting ready to cross, the room her cousin passed in, and NO ONE goes in the bsmt but the cat bc Domovoi. He has strict instructions NOT to follow Grammy until it’s time but they 👁️ stuff

their names used to be... punnier? Sometimes in really cringe and stupid ways. At some point, I decided those had to change. For example, I changed the proto-names of the Vodyanoi and Domovoi when I decided to embrace the Russian-speaking part of my world, so I gave them Russian myth spirit names.

The main reason it's not a weapon is because people don't want to get it dirty 😆 It's sharp, and Domovoi glass is pretty durable (it's no steel, but it's stronger than 'regular' glass), but it would be difficult to maintain. And, depending on what you're fighting, it *could* still get broken

My favourite magical beings in a realistic setting are hearth or house-spirits like the domovoi in The Girl in the Tower or the elves in the Elves and the Shoemaker. I'm also very fond of dwarfs in more fantastical stories like Tolkien, Artemis Fowl or the Dragon Age games.
Domovoi glass is practically indestructable, so it's not fragile in the least, but it IS unwieldy and just kinda awkward to use as an actual weapon when it's enchantments are for giving its wielder clarity and wisdom. It's entirely ceremonial/religious

The lubber fiend is a large hairy man with a tail, who will do some housework for you in exchange for a bowl of milk and a nap by the fire. Kind of a cross between a sasquatch and your domovoi, hobgoblin, gnome-style house spirits. Seems like a fairly chill, if slightly grumpy dude
