Many people resurface after reading any of #DorothyDunnett going WTF! Even on rereads. She is that absorbing and immersive.

From the roof of the Crawfords' Boghall Castle: #GameOfThrones #DorothyDunnett "To the east lay the roofs of the barony town of Biggar, smoking in the socket of Bizzyberry Hill...the horizon was jumbled with hills." A brilliant walk up Bizzyberry this morn, pondering the ghosts of Midculter. #Lymond

Any Hexham visit means going to the Abbey to imagine: Tom Erskine hid in the transept gallery, while battered prisoner Francis Crawford is brought in by the English to confess and be shot.. #GameOfKings #DorothyDunnett #heartstoppingbookscenes #16thcentury #Northumberland #ghostsofFlawsValley

For any #DorothyDunnett readers, does this make you think of Lymond? (It's actually Lucanus describing Pompey) ...

To get you into the mood, try K.F. MacCarthy's short story about St Kilda; the winner of the 2024 #DorothyDunnett short story competition. It is wonderfully evocative of St Kilda at the time of Roddy's book!

Sometimes #DorothyDunnett has the weirdest turns of phrase:

"...all the trading matters...were picked out and examined and fitted into their programme, one after the other, like beans being pushed into a drill."

Like what now?

Reading The Spring of the Ram: 2 Niccolo 2 Trebizond.

Awful lot of people having sex with people with huge age differences. Tumblr would revolt. Some of it is rather revolting. #DorothyDunnett

I regret to inform you that, 80% in, I am quite enjoying NICCOLO RISING by #DorothyDunnett and will probably keep reading the series. So far Niccolo is a much more enjoyable main character to me than Francis who I spent 6 books wanting to throttle.

I am reading NICCOLO RISING by #dorothydunnett and I had to spoil myself about who the main character turns out to be otherwise I was going to lose my mind.

She's a great writer but she can be needlessly hostile to her readers

Francis Crawford, love of my life 😭 Did I make myself cry while drawing this? Why, yes. From the first book of The Lymond Chronicles, The Game of Kings. I won’t give any spoilers to the scene, but if you know you know 🥺

Ha😄exact same, now got 11 months to wait for Doctor. Started the Dollys with Singing Bird/Rum, in view of the Isle of Rum, a few summers ago! (though also prefer the original paperbacks where possible..) #DorothyDunnett

Portrayed quite sympathetically in #RingedCastle by #DorothyDunnett
Today's artist w/out a (known) birthday: Hans Eworth of Antwerp. Came to England in 1545 & made good. Here painting v. stern yet somehow fragile Mary Tudor.

#altHallelujah

Lymond's back, the tale begins.
Scotland's rocked like skittle pins.
It's Francis Crawford causing ballyhoo now.
The lowlands burn, the cause betrayed
It's all a bloody masquerade
But always we can count on Wat Buccleuch now.

Me in my head to the sports guy at the station where I work, while I’m trying to decipher and rewrite his on-camera scripts into a readable written story for the website: 😅🫠🧐
