Remember, in totalitarian states, among the first people to be silenced are the artists, the poets, the writers. There's a reason for that.

Be that reason.

If you do art, keep doing art. Do it with as much passion as you can muster. Express yourself.
This is your reminder that writing is a political action.

If we could get the average American billionaire to start paying their fair share of taxes...but no, let's force the 'average American' to work harder and longer.

Fuck you, Oz. Fuck you and the billionaire you rode in on.
Dr Oz: "If we could get the average American to start working a year earlier, right out of high school, or a year later -- not retire -- or work better during their lifetime because they're healthy, it would generate about $3 trillion to the US economy. That would more than remove the debt."

Chief Justice Roberts -- "an errand boy sent by grocery clerks to collect a bill."
people make the mistake of assuming the Roberts is some great man concerned about his legacy on the court when in reality, he's never been more than a glorified Republican party clerk.

"You hear that, Mr. Trump? That is the sound of inevitability. It is the sound of your bowels. Goodbye, Mr. Trump."
I cannot say for sure the president pooped himself in public, but it's generally odd for the president to be acting as if he's pooped himself in public.

The good news is Bobby Jr. certified it organic.

This is an important watch. If you’re from Louisiana you should already know this and why you should be mad as hell about what’s happening.

It makes me ridiculously happy to know there was an actual thought process involved in the choice between Dangerbot9000 and Dangerbot900.
Funnily enough, I did call him 9000 to begin with, then decided 900 would probably be less reliable/ more dangerous.

Where is Charlie Kirk when you nee...oh. Right.

(It was not my intent to say anything re: Charlie Kirk that might make MAGA/ICE/CPB agents feel the teensiest bit unloved; we must respect the feelings of those with whom we disagre...oh. Right.)

Me, I'm done with winter. If I even SEE a groundhog today, I'll wrestle it to the ground and slowly choke the life out of it.

(Okay, I know marmotcide is wrong, & I know that it takes no skill to wrestle one to the ground; I mean they're GROUNDhogs. But don't start nothin', won't be nothin'.)

Love this art notebook.
January has flown. It’s been filled with good news for our family, along with lots of protesting the horrific news in the country. Here’s hoping February brings better news nationally. #artbeco #gratitude #uplift

I used to write the Sunday Salon essays about photographers as a prompt for #photography discussions.

This piece from 2008 is about Eugène Atget, whose photographs of 'Old Paris' were intended as models for stage design but became a definitive document of the city.

Everybody who has a) worked from a home shared with b) one or more separate species is familiar with this. It's an odd sort of help.

Just moments ago the parkway was TAKEN OVER by winter cyclists. At first I thought hundreds, but they just kept coming. Thousands and thousands! I almost cried. I’m so dang proud of MN right now.

"Where were you 10 year ago?"

I was apparently doing the same thing I do now; noodling around, looking at stuff, shooting photos.

I'm more hopeful we'll win because of the courage of Minnesotans like this woman. She's legally following ICE agents, they stop her, draw & point weapons at her, she remains remarkably calm as she's being dragged from her car. 3 armed ICE assholes, terrified of a lone woman with a camera.

Being "fatally injured" is far more pleasant than getting "killed."
Last December a driver hit and injured a 65 year old man while he was biking in Chinatown

We just learned he passed away from his injuries

Our hearts go out to our neighbor whose life was cut short and we extend our sympathies to his family and friends

These are textbook concentration camps. The inmates are a politically targeted demographic and they're generally held outside the reach and rule of the law. It's VERY uncomfortable to say our gov't has created a large-scale concentration camp system, but facts is facts.
I sometimes forget that not everyone has read my work. I am not saying don't call them concentration camps. I'm saying that I understand why the term makes some people uncomfortable, but that we need to realize where we're at. Anyway, attaching a recent piece to this thread, to help limit confusion.

I've admired Mark's photos for years, especially his noir series and his more personal images (like the ones posted here). There are two here I particularly like: Joyce & Bill's tavern & a delicious photo of an old sinfully red AMF Roadmaster #bicycle.

I try not to feel envy or jealousy, but damn. I mean, those are completely unworthy emotions, but...but damn.
A reminder the work of a cycling city is never "done": after a decade of intensive usage, the bike parking facility beneath Delft Station has been thoughtfully renewed. All 5,000 spaces were replaced, and the building reimagined to reflect the latest insights and best practices from Dutch Railways.🧵
