Just watched Greygound given my bank now gives me free Apple TV. It is no Cruel Sea (and I doubt you could make a film as authentic as that today) but it is a good film on the Battle of the Atlantic.

I think a big reason Silent Hill 2006 looks so much better than Return to Silent Hill is down to the cinematography. The first movie was done by Dan Laustsen who has worked on Crimson Peak, Shape of Water and Frankentstein whereas Return to Silent Hill was by a guy who worked on the REC sequels.

I was shocked and saddened to hear that the Canadian icon, Catherine O'Hara had passed away today at the age of 71. She has been a part of the Canadian film/TV landscape for decade. From Second City TV to Home Alone & more, I'll always remember her the most as Moira on Schitt's Creek.

Whenever a beloved film/tv celebrity dies theres a deep shock and sadness that someone who feels so disconnected from time itself (due to always being on your screen frozen in time) is actually just as mortal as you. It is a “well duh! Of course we all die” moment but also… the shock still hits.

Rebecca Miller • 4h I am a leader at one of the immigrant assistance organizations in the state, Valley Neighbors. I work closely with other immigrant organizations too. There are tons of rumors circulating around Montana today and the last couple of days in regards to fears of ICE or CBP arriving with a large presence or doing a raid or things like that. So far no action has been verified to have occurred. Unfortunately too many people are just taking rumors and running with them like a giant game of telephone. I want to be clear that that isn't helpful. If you hear a rumor, that is an impetus to take action to try to confirm information or to reach out to someone who can. Spreading unverified rumors when you did not see it yourself or know the person in real life who saw it can have unintended consequences for people. Worried immigrant neighbors can miss school, lose jobs if they don't show up, have legal ramifications multiply if they don't go to court hearings. It can lead people to hesitate to seek urgent medical care. It can also damage community trust and keep people from paying attention when there IS a threat. It is fine to name specific things you saw in real life. It is not fine to jump to conclusions about what those things mean. saw an SUV with blacked out windows drive by" is fine. Using the same info and saying "ICE just drove by" is not fine. Concrete information is what is needed. --What time of day and what day did you see something? --What kind of vehicle did you see? Were there officers in uniforms? How many vehicles and officers? --Where specifically where they? Were they sitting or driving? What were they doing? --Do you see a person of color being interacted with? --If there is a person of color being questioned by law enforcement, you have a legal right to observe and film what is happening as long as you are not obstructing. --What markings were on the vehicle or uniforms? What specific law enforcement entity is it? ICE and CBP are not the same entity. Montana Highway Patrol is not the same as Border Patrol. These are commonly confused, which can obscure at times what is happening. --Is there a picture of the situation? Is there someone who could safely get a picture? --Could there be another explanation for what you are seeing? (It was brought up that in Bozeman there are often celebrities driving around in convoys with security, for instance) --If you are hearing rumors about an institution in the community like a school or medical facility, can you delegate someone to call and verify what is happening before rumors get out of control? --Can you drive around your town or city and observe what is occurring? --Can you get to know an immigrant neighbor today? Or just neighbors in general? A rumor is not an invitation to panic but to take a deep breath and run through your mental preparation. One Montana colleague who is addressing all these rumors flying around wisely advised people who are worried to be calm and get some rest in case they are needed to respond, and also to build some space into their schedules in case they need to respond. You can also give to organizations that provide immigration legal support and legal support for civil rights. But let's ALSO remember that we see come across our screens daily powerful examples of courage and solidarity. We achieve nothing by spiraling into anxiety--though sometimes it's impossible to avoid. If you catch yourself in that mental headspace, please take one of these suggestions above. Do one concrete thing to be helpful. We all have one another.
