6/ These transfers happen quickly and create short-lived intermediate states that are sensitive to the local molecular environment. Flavins are known to participate in reactions that involve rapid electron motion, which is one reason GR is interesting to examine through a quantum lens.

Some human endogenous pigments that interfere with fluorescence-based imaging:

- lipofuscin (脂褐质),
- nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD, 烟酰胺腺嘌呤二核苷酸),
- flavins (黄素),
- hemoglobin (血红蛋白) and its breakdown products,
- bisretinoids (双视黄醇类)

Our health secretary recommends a stiff shot of heroin to get into the flow. Or maybe ripping into the internal organs of your neighbor's dog, for the vital flavins depriving America's youth.

Or not, because he's stupid. The only heroin I need is my heroine "Gina Biggs".

A study of residents of Ferrara, Italy, where malaria was once endemic, and Huye, Rwanda, where it still is endemic, found a small proportion of people genetically deficient in flavins—a deficiency that protects red blood cells from malaria. In PNAS: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

New pre-print! Flavins are essential cofactors in biology, acting as both one- and two-electron redox cofactors, yet how the protein scaffold tunes redox chemistry has been difficult to discern. Here, we examine how the N5 environment controls flavin potentials. (1/n) www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Measurement and Control of Crossed Potentials in a Flavoprotein
Flavoproteins are versatile redox-active biomolecules enabling a multitude of metabolic processes. Their versatility stems from the tunability of the flavin cofactor′s one- and two-electron reduction ...

Flavins are light sensitive and can form stable radicals, which may allow them to be affected by magnetic fields under certain conditions. Scientists think this could be due to something called the radical pair mechanism, a possible way that magnetism affects living things at the quantum level.

AKA: he’s creating the instructions for bacteria to start producing proteins that QBI wants to study.

These proteins, called flavoproteins, bind a small molecule called a flavins, small molecules derived from riboflavin (vitamin B2).

I've been thinking a lot about flavins and interested to hear @chemsky.bsky.social 's opinions here. Ingraham used a thermodynamic model and potentiometric titrations to estimate E1 (OX/SQ), E2 (SQ/HQ) and Em (OX/HQ). Em was -200 mV , and dE was 64 mV. (1/n)
