I had a beautiful Diamond Python and Eastern Brown Snake yesterday along the trail in Royal National Park. The Diamond Python was much blotchier than I'm used to seeing around Sydney. Moments before I saw the brown snake I'd been walking off the trail very close to him! #snakes #reptiles #herping

Late-afternoon herping walk! In addition to a ton of narrowmouth toads and cliff-chirping frogs under various boards, I found a handsome and feisty rat snake, a big sleepy whiptail, and a wary diamondback rattler. (Plus a nearby rattler snakeskin which might have been theirs, which I took home.)

A while since I last posted. Life's been crazy and I've been working to figure a lot of things out, as any well adjusted person might imagine. I got out the other day for some non-work herping and found a beautiful adult Salish garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis pickeringii).

During this night, I met a transmasc scientist who studies snake ecology

I told him one of my best friends has a 11 year old nonbinary kid completely obsessed with snakes

Connected him with mom and there may be a herping trip in the future

Imagine being a little trans kid and having that mentor 🥹
I hosted 14 other local Chicago transmasc people for dinner at my place last night. A couple friends, but mostly random guys I met once out at queer events, or friends of friends I had never met before

My heart is so full. Everyone was just so amazing and kind and genuine. We all needed that 🥹

Lifer plain-belly water snake (Nerodia erythrogaster) basking in a swamp. Water snakes are severely misunderstood animals. Their defensive behaviors are often misinterpreted as aggressive. Such behaviors can be avoided by simply not picking snakes up. 🐍

Truly fantastic night herping out in West Texas last night, including three species I’ve particularly wanted to see: a Trans-Pecos copperhead, a black-headed snake, and a Texas banded gecko(!?!)

Meet the Sri Lankan Green Pit Viper, a venomous snake found in the rainforests of Sri Lanka. Its green coloration provides excellent camouflage within the foliage. It is not dangerous to humans or poses very little threat!

Very luck day’s herping, not because I found a snake — I didn’t — but because I was about three seconds away from being brained by an enormous falling branch that came down with zero warning

I was recently herping for adders in a Dorset nature reserve and I found what initially looked like an adder, but the markings and eyes were unusual. it turned out to be a smooth snake, a protected species and the rarest species of snake in the UK.

The Georgian Bay is a magical place in Canada, home to all Snake species in Eastern Canada

This is me back when I was a canoe tripper with an absolute unit of an Eastern Hognose Snake which for my money is the cutest Snake on earth. #herping #Snake #wildlife

Birding/herping day trip up in Huntsville -- 20 bird species (including several migrants) and a herp I didn't even have to work to find. Ovenbird was cool to see. Also M&F American redstarts, though I think we're in the breeding range.
