Bonus fun fact: Jaguar started out as the Swallow Sidecar Company before becoming SS Cars in 1935 and introducing the SS Jaguar. After WWII [oddly, not during] they renamed the company Jaguar, for reasons obvious to everybody except Elon Musk.

Anyway, the SS Jaguar 100 is an amazingly beautiful car

Apropos of nothing, when appointed Transport Secretary in 2010 Hammond queried why cars should have to stop for trains at level crossings, not the other way around. He also wanted to use Govt funding for Jaguar to devise an IT system where owners could get guaranteed parking places in cities.

Sometimes when Officer Price of the California Highway Patrol is driving the I-5 he feels like he’s riding a prop and that the ribbon of highway stretching ahead is nothing but a sound stage. And the stream of cars all around are full of extras. That’s LA Syndrome, his partner tells him. Suddenly a maroon Jaguar flies by. Price flips on the sirens and takes off after the Jaguar. Only, hell, where did it go? It’s gone. His partner says, Fucking Hollywood man, nothing here is real.

Appalachian British classic car shows are a different kind of hoot because every other owner has a story of working 10 years to get their TR6 / MG B fit to drive the length of the Parkway without something falling off.
A red MG B-GT sports car (among others at a show for classic British cars) with a large pink teddy bear wearing sunglasses in the passenger seat. Three classic Jaguar sports cars: one green, one red, one black.

The Series III was arguably the best-looking of the original Jaguar XJ series range. This 1982 US brochure features the 4.2-litre XJ6 plus the 4.2 Vanden Plas limited edition. Much is made of the cars' build quality, after a bad spell for Jaguar's reputation. #weirdcarbs

Robotaxi companies are trying to rebrand themselves as public transit now, private taxis are not public transit.
"Waymo is teaming up with Via, a company that augments public transit systems with on-demand cars and shuttles, to bring driverless taxis to Chandler, Arizona, this fall. The robotaxis will be folded into Chandler Flex, the city’s on-demand public transport service. Via basically supplies the software, app and the mapping that powers this on-demand public transit network." "Using the Chandler Flex app, riders can order a vehicle that pulls up to a designated “virtual bus stop.” Most rides today are in Chrysler Pacifica minivans, and each trip costs just $2. But for those less tech-savvy, there’s also a phone line. You can simply call in and request a ride. Later this year, residents will be able to summon Waymo’s electric Jaguar I-Pace robotaxis through the service. That's just the start, Waymo and Via say. If the pilot succeeds, it could encourage other local governments in the U.S. to also bring autonomous vehicles directly into their public transit networks."
