the only valid counterpoint to this is that it’d be too expensive to retrain an entire generation of drivers who don’t know how to check their mirrors
The backseat monitoring and even backup camera mandates are fair game, IMO. I know parents are busy, but I do think it's questionable to force everyone to pay more for cars to keep people from forgetting and backing over their children. Sounds awful, but these are super rare issues.

Police have access to massive surveillance networks that track the public whether they are suspects or not. That means probably for every 1 officer caught using the system to harass or spy on people they have feuds with, ex's, activists, journalists, there are probably 100 more we don't know about.
