If this ceasefire happens - and I hope it does - Western media will talk about 'peace'. This will be inaccurate. What they will mean is 'quiet', a reversion to the background level of violence that Palestinians have faced for decades. Peace can only come with the end of the occupation and apartheid.

My best organizing tip for academic workers (& all workers, but academics esp. can struggle to internalize this IME) is to go to campus workers with less power than you as the *first* step of any campaign. Going to deans etc w/ more power cedes your own power to the boss & shrinks your coalition.

I think people forget that the only reason opportunities exist to "talk nicely" to people with power over you (your boss, your government, etc.) is because lots of people with the same amount or less power than you literally rioted to win you that privilege.

People incarcerated in Iowa state prisons earn between 28 and 95 cents per hour according to the ACLU. This is legal because the Iowa state constitution still permits slavery for people convicted of crimes.

You used to be able to learn about this history in the materials the state is disappearing.
