Solidarity to hundreds of my former comrades at Nottingham out today protesting the destruction of languages and music programs. 🌹
Council is hiding behind locked doors with security guards blocking corridors but they can't escape from the anger of over 200 staff and students condemning management's incompetence and protesting course closures and redundancies.
Who is the university? We are!!

Abedini has been released!
Horrid news out of Oklahoma about Dr. Vahid Abedini, a professor of Iranian Studies.

The university has refused to make a public comment on Abedini's detention. Folks with OU connections, you know what to do: call OU and demand they take a stand & support Abedini.

I’ll be traveling this week and my family will be forgoing our usual airport Starbucks.

Please join us in solidarity with the striking workers.
Friendly reminder that striking workers are asking you not to patronize ANY Starbucks store.

If you're traveling this week, your airport definitely has other options. Zero reason to even think about crossing a picket line!

Gen Z is organizing and learning and building mutual aid networks and showing up to meetings and getting bodyslammed outside ICE facilities and doing serious work to actually affect the material conditions in their communities (and oh, also, going to No Kings rallies).
My @nytimes.com op-ed: The Boomers Are Protesting Trump. Where Is Gen Z? www.nytimes.com/2025/11/24/o... (gift link)

The key point: "The absence of young people from conventional protests is both a problem and a warning."

Never not thinking about the time an administrator told an international faculty member concerned about encountering ICE that "you don't need to worry because Rümeysa was released so it was all fine in the end."

Mask fully off.
A reporter asks if Mamdani stands by calling Trump a fascist. Mamdani starts to give a delicate answer.

Trump (smiles, pats Mamdani's arm): "That's OK, you can just say yes. It's easier. I don't mind."

Driving in a part of Boston I haven’t been to before, and Google Maps tells me to turn left on Derby Road, pronouncing it “Durby.”

Me, out loud, involuntarily: Darby.

Living in England ruined me.

Israel is engaged in genocide, it is a genocide materially assisted by the US, and AIPAC is the biggest lobby pushing for that material assistance to continue.

AND.

We need to proactively address anyone trying to exploit these realities and justified anger to advance or engage antisemitism.

If you haven’t worked for a university, you might not know that one of the primary ways universities manage sexually violent faculty is promoting them away from students and into power.

It isn’t a coincidence. It’s the system working as designed.

I've never understood complaints about "students" as a blob because they are incredible. Just look at what the Student Government Association wrote in support of art profs at Tufts, entirely of students' own volition.
