According to the UK LARP History Timeline (CJ Romer) he hasn't found any references to "LARP" in the UK prior to 1990 and "LRP" still seems the common term up until around 2003. "Freeforms" may have been started by or at least popularised by the Australian LRP crowd.

My favourite LARP plot I've run was probably my demon plot, (big bad pictured) inspired by a book by Clive Barker. The big ritual the players did at the end was just *chef's kiss*

Been doodling designs for Menhirs Fate costumes as having always crewed fests, I've never really played much!
Am I the only one dying without a costume brief?
It is 90% of my keen for any game!

Look, it's not our fault people decided to start calling posts here skeets. Assumed everyone would get it, but no. So, we've went back to LRP, which oddly enough always made me think of the word Larp. 🤷♀️

We used LRP at least until the late 00s, even though we described people as "larpers" but eventually with more and more global communication we just added the A in for the sake of avoiding another pointless "do you mean LARP?" conversation.

5. Nordic Freeform/Nordic larp. I know very little about this but it definitely had an impact on UK LRP conventions. Mostly seems to have been adopted by the freeform crowd. As it's post internet, I'd guess it hit the UK around 1998.

In honour of this, it's called LRP and if you're in the UK and calling it LARP you might as well call it McDonalds.
One thing I hope does come from the "will they won't they" tariffs is a rise in local RPG scenes that are less UScentric. I'm not nostalgic about much, but it does feel like the UK RPG scene was better when it was meaningfully distinct from the American RPG scene.
