Good morning Jenny. 😊

Through your posts I learn a little something new every day about the Netherlands and even pick up a word or two in dutch! So I was wondering about children's choosing-rhymes. In English we have "Eenie, meenie, miney, mo" to find out who's "it". Is there a dutch equivalent?

Actually it common Ling (not cod)
I had to look it up, five days in water (change water every day), six days in sodium carbonate, and then water for 4-5 days. Boil eat (not me!). It took my english dad 15 years to learn to like it. Very odd Christmas food.

I knew part of that, but I thought the original language was English, but with a different accent (that doesn’t sound all that different to my Texan ears)

I get to learn new things every day.

Meh. There are at least three decent hooks for a clever take right there, and that's all you have?

That's not even an insult, that just how every cliche 'murican sounds the day they learn that languages other than English exist.

I feel sad at how many people are voluntarily giving up their own curiosity. “I’m not Irish; I wasn’t told those stories.” Okay! Wikipedia has a random article feature. You could learn one (1) new thing every day on your lunch break without An Authority Figure telling you what to learn. ✨free will✨

Only flush the 3 P’s: pee, poo & (toilet) paper.
Not every place in the world can even flush all three — we’re lucky.

This World Toilet Day (Nov 19), we’re grateful for the infrastructure that keeps our community safe. 🚽💙

I can't bear the sound of his whiny voice. He sounds more like a caricature of himself every day, with the stupid way he speaks.
There aren't enough swear words in English that I can use to describe him - will need to learn some good ones in another language!

I learn something every day. But, why did they use Latin letters? Would it be “G” for “Go”, or Japanese characters like “行く”?

I like Japanese/Chinese/Korean words on a t-shirt, because they look cool. But then I see people from those countries with shirts in English that say, “SANDWICH” or similar

Fun fact, despite the Hungary's small size,it always had a surprisingly large film industry even up to this day.

They even dub every movie and children's cartoon unlike some other European countries. Which has drawbacks because children are less exposed to English, so less of them learn it early

Advice for anyone planning a trip to Japan:
・The best convenience store for food is 7-Eleven.
・Learn some Japanese. Don’t fall into the hallucination that English will get you everywhere.
・Take a shower every day and wash your hair properly. Always use deodorant. I mean this seriously.

Was really struck by what a lovely inspiring exercise this is, like a primary school version of Mary Oliver’s Instructions for living a life
Pay attention.
Be astonished.

This @manderleypress.bsky.social book is such a joy. Life-affirming escapism. I just spent 10 mins on Google Maps trying (& failing) to find a tiny alley off E 71st St that Hanff describes as a perfect English mews. Now I want to go to NYC to seek it out. There must/should be a map of Hanff spots🤔💡.

De gids uithangen de hele dag is heel geinig, maar holy shit wat vermoeiend voor mijn autistische hoofd. Verder is het natuurlijk ook FOKKING ADE én herfstvakantie dus taffesdruk op de gracht. Trapgevel in English is trouwens stepped gable. Wist ik niet. Nu wel. Learn something new every day, lui.
