And of course, as the article says, this data center will be powered by fossil fuels. It claims a "low emissions" fossil gas power system, but the emissions may be lower than coal fired electricity, but fossil (some call it "natural") gas is still a fossil fuel and emits substantial CO2.

“Around 80 per cent of global production and consumption of meat occurs in high and upper-middle income countries. Only 2 per cent of each occurs in low income countries. Most if not all of the companies plan to expand production (and emissions) in the coming decades as poor countries develop.”
Environment: Agricultural emissions are roasting the planet

If we're acknowledging that social media is harmful and dangerous for children, why aren't we acknowledging that these dangers impact adults, and adults might be even more susceptible to these harms than children?

A 63-year-old radicalised online made a bomb to blow up a *low emissions zone camera*
This was a minor story on London news this morning - but suspect is a real cautionary (and alarming) tale of an older man getting radicalised online.

America’s protein push misses the real tradeoff. Beef protein uses ~20x the land and emissions of beans.

Plant proteins are cheaper, healthier, and cut climate risk that hits low-income families first—without asking people to give up protein.
In the Quest for Protein, Don’t Forget Plants
Consumers need not choose between a protein-rich diet and a planet-friendly one.

..But there's a darker side to the normalisation of ranting about traffic management:

This week, at Woolwich crown court, someone was found guilty of blowing up an ultra-low emissions zone (ULEZ) camera with a homemade bomb, the shrapnel of which travelled 100m.

Great article, thanks! We need to keep challenging the stove industry's misinformation about "modern" stoves burning "Ready to Burn" wood being low emission. People need to be informed about emissions per appliance, as that's what causes asthma attacks, etc. for neighbours.

Looking into the emissions data as well is important I think. Emissions did fall very slightly in 2025 but not quite as much as 24, 23

Demand growth is low; some new wind/solar making up for lower hydro. But once hydro comes back GHGs will fall

The low point for U.S. emissions is the summer of 2023 and look at how they have have spiked since then, driven by load growth from AI and electrification that has not been sufficiently matched by clean generation (partly due to the current administration's hostile stance).

Key energy technologies are gaining momentum worldwide

Since 2010, new capacity for low-emissions power generation has surged, led by solar & wind

Since 2020, EV sales have taken off – especially in China, where about half of new cars sold are electric: iea.li/4b2Gz4Y

The quicker we cut emissions, the fewer people will die.

And as a happy by-product, the world will actually save money in doing so. Because up-front investment in low-carbon energy systems pays off over the long term.

Change isn't easy, but it's also not impossible. We can do this.

Last year we took a group of Japanese journalists on a tour of the LNG facilities on the Gulf and through the Permian oilfields.

Japan is heavily invested in the global LNG industry but awareness of the climate impacts of methane emissions are low in Japan. This article hopes to change that.
