#memrise
But its closer to a fusion of Grandia, Shadowhearts, visual novels, and Memrise / Duolingo.

Memrise also gives the option to select 'I already know this' each time it shows you a new word or phrase. It's really handy when re-starting for the umpteenth time...

I binned Duo Lingo and went back to Memrise where they have videos of native speakers and several different voices/readings for the audio-only bits.

This was a great blog Kedi and I’ll be distributing it to my MFL Team. We have definitely seen issues with “phonics meets grammar” and getting students to see that what they’ve written *couldn’t* work.
I was wondering if I could have links to your memrise on the commonest words?
Thanks so much 👏🏻

Lo chusmeo. Igual me gustó Memrise. Le voy a dar una oportunidad.
Gracias!

Ah, entonces por ahí te sirve Memrise. Maneja un estilo similar a Duolingo pero un poco menos denso (y con grabaciones de gente real diciendo algunas de las frases).

Qué idioma estás estudiando? Yo he usado Memrise, que es muy útil para incorporar vocabulario.

Busuu's advantage is the grammar lessons (which I believe only come with the paid version). My daily routine includes a vocab review lesson, grammar review lesson, new content lesson, and some real speaker interactions.

Memrise is great at spaced repetition for memorisation (as the name suggests).

I like Busuu and Memrise (I have the paid versions of both).

Clozemaster (free) is good for quick review if you're already reasonably proficient with a good vocabulary in your target language.

(I'm learning Italian; ymmv depending on your target language.)

Ik gebruik Babbel (betaald) en Memrise (alleen de gratis oefeningen)voor Zweeds. Geen idee of die ook Vietnamees doen.

I’m enjoying Memrise for my Arabic studies. Includes short videos and audio recordings with native speakers.
Not sure which languages they offer, though. The free version is great- no external ads, just subscription splash screens.

Memrise?

I was using Memrise to learn European Portuguese. I was doing pretty good with it, but I kinda quit using it about 6 months ago due to unrelated stress. I will say when we were in PT I successfully used some of the phrases I learned from it.

The Memrise that never was because I left 😘

Legit though I’m sure @alexrawlings.bsky.social would have some suggestions

Memrise is great! I subscribed then stopped using it for some reason. I like Drops for vocabulary words, it’s organized much better than Duo. I use the free one. LingoDeer is good for grammar but I stopped using that one too. 🤷‍♀️

i started like 30 mins ago so no idea how it works out over a longer time but for the start rn it's good so far...

I’ll check out Memrise, but atm Duolingo is where I went back to, though on the free version. At least I can practice a bit (I’m done with the learning content side)

Otherwise I just watch all my shows with subtitles, which helps a lot.

Memrise used to be really good and actually useful for learning languages, but they destroyed all the good features and community courses in favor of poorly made courses and AI like Duolingo.

Have you found any better alternatives for Swedish, if I may ask? I tried Duolingo and Memrise and Babbel is the least bad option - but I agree it's not great
January 11, 2026 at 2:25 PM
Used Memrise to get some Swedish and German basics and it was honestly really good.

Does have an AI-chat feature, which lets you practice with a bot, but the rest of the app has no AI features that I remember.

Really liked the whole app and you can get really far without premium.

Also from Europe

i'm a memrise girlie. a lot better for retention than duolingo anyway, which focuses on teaching you silly meme sentences you'll never use bc their marketing is 100% viral
January 11, 2026 at 2:05 PM
The way I only ever use Memrise for the community courses and not the official courses…

What does this guy think Duolingo or Memrise is besides a form of digital offloading?

Lets not confuse mental offloading with education.

In wanting to make Educational RPGs, people are calling that digital offloading.
