Tomorrow, I’m excited to introduce our first guest contributor: @repgabevasquez.bsky.social of New Mexico’s 2nd District. Congressman Vasquez has represented southern New Mexico in the House since 2022, holding onto his seat even as the district backed Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

Perhaps you should start with correct numbers before you spout your opinion. Using generalities may work with some people but not with me. The U.S. has never had all registered voters vote in a presidential election. There’s a myriad of reasons why. The biggest one is they just don’t give a fuck.

I agree in part ... we should be mad at the people who voted for trump ... and any who do not vote in two consecutive presidential elections should be purged from the voter rolls!

Congress sits mired in dysfunction, with the irresistible force of fixation on bipartisanship snagged by the immovable object of partisan polarization.

That makes threats of impeachment inert — and renders the presidential obligation to faithfully execute the laws entirely notional.
Impeachment, at the end of the day, requires the support of a significant number of Republicans, who have to choose party over country.

There was also the influx of mail in ballots (during COVID), which TFG will always be against because it's harder to cheat that way, which I believe is the only reason the 2020 election wasn't stolen. TBH, I think it's been a long time since Repugs actually won a presidential election.

Stranger than fiction? You betcha! In my novel THE CANDIDATE, I wrote about a Veep/presidential candidate who fakes a terrorist attack on the US to get us into a war with Venezuela. The ePub is only $2.99 RIGHT NOW, so pick it up everywhere.

SCOTUS ruling on Presidential immunity will go down as the biggest disaster in US legal history. Just invites pure corruption.

It made no sense then and it makes even less now. Roberts should walk forever beside someone with a bell shouting 'shame' everywhere he goes.

I think the next US president needs to apologize to the Danes (and a lot of other people) for Trump on behalf of the United States, and I think she would actually look very presidential doing so

According to Tal Cual, the majority of the dead - 15 in total - belonged to Presidential Security Battalion No. 6, the unit responsible for protecting the head of state.

I am so relieved the Brilliant Lawyer had time to offer a non-statement.

I've seen these ratfuckers try to help Trump "but leftishly" in three straight presidential election cycles now, I'm well beyond assuming good faith from any of them.

The only recourse left when faced with presidential lawbreaking, SCOTUS tells us, is impeachment. But as when SCOTUS gutted §4 of the VRA and said Congress should simply write a new one, the justices are hiding behind the fig leaf that the nation has a functional Congress.
Take this. Congress ordered the president to release the Epstein Files. The Constitution directs presidents to take care that the laws are faithfully executed.

But presidents how have near-immunity from criminal accountability for lawbreaking, and can pardon staff who flout the law on his behalf.
The Epstein Files Transparency Act is a law, passed by Congress on November 19 with an overwhelming vote. Complying with it was not optional. The Department of Justice did not comply.

I want to make sure this is very clear.

I wonder if there is any case law that reversed a presidential pardon.

Acts Of War are Acts Of War whether officially declared or not.
Pearl Harbor was an Act Of War.
Trump's attacks on Venezuela have been Acts Of War.
Russia's attack on Ukraine and the US are Acts Of War.
Trump was guilty of Treason before he was "elected."
Follow the Constitution.

it will be interesting to see if the ICC charges the tRump admin with crimes..
when any of them travel overseas wouldn’t it be incredible to see them arrested !!!
presidential pardons only work in the US and many of our Allies belong in the ICC…

Also, should consider the role of the rigidity of the presidential system. A parliamentary system would have many alternative routes to remove the Caesar (although there are no guarantees there as well, of course)
January 4, 2026 at 10:52 PM
No no no, there are potentially way more than 40. I mean, 2018 we _flipped_ 40 seats & came close in a dozen more, & that was with a worse map & more neutral political environment. There are 80-90 seats w a presidential margin <10 points. Seats Harris won by at least 5 points should be safe…

I really liked this...although to be fair something like 19 of the top 20 (at least) most disturbing presidential press conferences have been Trump's. (Hell, it might be 49 of the top 50).
James Fallows calls the press conference announcing Maduro's capture the most disturbing one he has ever seen and Fallows has seen a lot of craziness in American politics.
‘Blind Into Caracas’
Less than 24 hours in, members of the Trump team are celebrating victory. None of them seem to have wondered what happens a day, a month, a decade from now.

But it’s also the kind of classic case military officers are exposed to in military ethics/training classes. They aren’t taught to question presidential authorities. The boat campaign is an extension of the legal reasoning behind deploying the NG in cities.
