Þórðarhöfði in August, Iceland off the beaten path

Þórðarhöfði is a 202-meter-tall rocky headland connected to the mainland by 2 narrow passages. There a is a large, 10-kilometer squared coastal lagoon between them. We had it to ourselves and the sheep❤️

Nous avons marché dans cet étroit passage de roches sur 2,5 km pour nous rendre à Þórðarhöfði. On peut voir des vagues à droite du passage. Le plan d'eau est plus calme à gauche. Au loin, nous voyons la presqu'île. Le ciel est partiellement nuageux. Islande (août 2025). Vue à partir de Þórðarhöfði. On peut voir le passage sur lequel nous avons marché et la rive de l'autre côté. On peut voit le fjord Skagafjörður et une partie de la lagune formée par les 2 passages. #Scrapie was detected at the farm #Kirkjuhóll in #Skagafjörður in #Iceland last week. The diagnosis is always a major blow, and it is clear that much work now awaits the farmers. The farmers say it is a comfort that they can keep some of their flock.

On this day in 1853, Stephan Stephansson was born in Skagafjörður, Iceland.
Called The Poet of the Rocky Mountains, he moved to Markerville in present-day Alberta in 1889 where he lived for the rest of his life. He is considered an Icelandic literary icon.

This is a photo taken in the main bedroom of the Glaumbær turf house at The Skagafjörður Heritage Museum in North Iceland. A wooden desk with an oil lamp, a teacup, a teapot, and an open book are in front of the window. The land in beyond the window is sloping down to partially flooded fields and a river. On the other side of the river are cliffs and flat topped hills. The sky was cloudy, but the clouds were breaking up giving it some texture. The museum was interesting and well worth the time we spent there. More information about it can be found here. https://www.glaumbaer.is/en

The Icelandic public broadcasting agency just issued a correction of a previous news item: The first lamb of the year was born in Skagafjörður on January 23rd, and NOT yesterday in Rangárvellir as previosly stated.

The accompanying photo is of the real first lamb born and its mother.
