And let's not forget their massive solar farm operations, high speed mag lev trains - all electric. 'Green washing', my butt.

True - an equivalent solar/wind farm & battery can be installed sooner and at lower cost than methane.
Let's do some quick simple math. We are told that the data center boom will be powered by natural gas (methane) in the US. Even thought methane is a climate killer and gas power is much more expensive than renewables.

However, we are being told this is the only way forward.

It is a lie.

"MINISTER DEFENDS SOLAR FARM INCREASE"
#RalphBlackburn for @yorkshirepost.co.uk

#EdMiliband has defended the raft of #SolarFarms and wind turbines being built across #Yorkshire, saying they will "cut bills and give us energy security".

"But the wind farm soon bca a casualty of Pres Trump’s efforts to slow — and sometimes revoke — fed approvals for wind and solar projects. A key environmental review of Jackalope by the Interior Dept was stalled for months, and the project is now effectively dead."

I don't think they have to do eminent domain. Landholders up there will gladly build a solar farm if it brings in money.
February 12, 2026 at 7:24 PM
the trouble is that as soon as you try to build a solar farm in any of those place, somebody pops up and says "why are you spoiling my view, build on a parking lot or warehouse roof instead".

Before the election Trump told the Fossil Fuel Industry to give him $1 Billion and they could talk. Well, it looks like they talked a lot because now, he already closed a Wind Farm and a Solar Farm and now, he's ERASED the Government's power to fight Climate Change..

NO SHAME WHATSOEVER...

Unironically, for the farmers and the local people and citizens of the state as a whole, a lot of land of the land used for "farming" would legitimately be better used as simply solar farm land.

Or even the agrovolatics that is happening in other places, given the supply crunch.

Why can preserved farmland not be used for solar farms? To me it makes sense to have a solar farm to make electricity that we despereately need right here in New Jersey. But having solar panels is considered 'industrial', whereas spraying the hell out of some crops with fertilizer is 'natural'.

I'm following a forum about urban planning, ecology, green tech, cycle infrastructure, etc.

Most stories are like "SOLAR POWER IS CHEAPER THAN EVER!" "WIND FARM IS GOING TO BE BUILT" "COUNTRY WILL REFOREST THIS LOCATION"

Meanwhile USA stories are like "GOVERNMENT SAYS WE SHOULD LICK RABID RATS!"

Heck the state might not even need to subsidize utility-scale solar, thye might just need to pre-empt local zoning to prevent towns from blocking those kinds of installations. Also, preserved farmland cannot be used for solar farms, even though 'farm' is kinda in the name.

One of Miliband's 1st acts was approving a huge solar farm on the Suffolk and Cambs border which 2 county, 2 district and all parish councils affected objected to, regardless of ruling party. The developers are now seeking to expand the planning permission to allow for data centres. Zero net zero.

”For instance, a 1 MW solar farm might necessitate between 5 and 10 acres of land, while a larger 10 MW installation could require anywhere from 50 to 100 acres.”
100 acres is a little under 0.5 km^2
(Again these numbers are on Earth, not in space).

It’s fascinating that under Trump we have slumping red county economy (tariffs, farm exports, immigrant farm labor, collapsing mfg, collapsing construction of mfg & solar/wind) and a growing blue county economy (AI, big hospitals / health care)

Pain for the base!
February 12, 2026 at 3:39 PM
”10MW of data centre would require ~28 km² of solar panels ”

There is a mistake in the text, because the real world wind farm in the photo produces 13 MW of power.

DONALD TRUMP IS BEING DONALD TRUMP. BEFORE THE ELECTION, HE TOLD THE FOSSIL FUEL INDUSTRY TO GIVE HIM $1 BLLION AND THEY COULD TALK. SINCE THEN, HE'S CLOSED A WIND FARM, A SOLAR FARM AND ORDERED THE PANTAGON TO BUY MORE COAL FIRED ELECTRICITY.
HE ONLY CARES ABOUT THE BOTTOM LINE, HIS BOTTOM LINE.

The biggest risk to biodiversity from a solar farm is the limited life of the application. If the fields revert to farmland there os a huge drop in biodiversity.

Yep. That's me. And anyone who disagrees with you, I suspect. How about you look at your local planning portal for a solar farm application you numbnut?
All the docs will be there including the BNG statements, layout and landscape drawings and planting plans.

So no actual data, just insults ?

There are three solar farms near where I live (one under construction) they are built on low grade farm land.

They have created new hedge rows and renovated existing ones, the two completed ones have wildflowers and grass growing between and under the panels...
