Finally got to Red Sonja by Gail Simone, and I loved it! I'm a sucker for Sword and sorcerery stories, and this did not disappint! I love Simone's witty dialog, and action set pieces were epic.
Overall, it was a great adventure with plenty of brutal battles and savagery I want out of the Conan universe!

Born in a world reliant on magic and spells, Edwin was immune and unable to use anything imbued with it. So when the divine protectors of Octera offer Edwin a cure in exchange for finding their daughter, Edwin accepts without hesitation. Not a second thought was given to him why they were banished or why she was hidden from them. Sairen’s mother had chosen duty over family when she left Sairen with her father. In a society where decorum was held in higher praise than hard work, Sairen was a pariah. How could anyone expect her to know how to act like a lady when she was only taught how to harvest lumber? When all that she knows and loves is lost in a conflagration, a stranger offers her the opportunity to face her mother. As the cure Edwin received diminishes, so does his facade hiding his garish scaring and risks exposure to those who seek him for justice for an accidental murder he committed as a child. Sairen starts to realize as she travels through famine riddled land, that duty for all might be greater than one. When faced with the choice her mother once made, would she do the same if it meant losing the ones she loved? Both of their fates have been long interwoven and could lead Octera toward a path to its demise.

Lovecraftian as genre is so interesting. It works super well as a detective story, but Forgive Me Father shows it as a great FPS and Conan shows it's sword and Sorcerery uses.

I guess if I can only pick one it'd be Dragon Quest. It is what got me into sword and sorcerery style fantasy.

Though each campaign has much more particular inspirations.

At one time, I had the entire bookshelf of "phonebooks"

The first one was standard sword-and-sorcerery stuff.

And then right around "Reads" it became an illustrated novel for a bit, and then...

There used to be "I survived Jaka's Story" t-shirts...
