Now taking movie recs for sword & sorcerery soup night, I honestly don't know much about the genre other than Conan the barbarian (who was invented by a relative of mine apparently)

Finally got to Red Sonja by Gail Simone, and I loved it! I'm a sucker for Sword and sorcerery stories, and this did not disappint! I love Simone's witty dialog, and action set pieces were epic.

Sort of sword and sorcerery ish standalone, episodic stories? A funny thing is that chronologically, the first book is third, the second book is first, and the third book is second.

Mistletoe and Mishigas by Mark Wardell is a delightful smutty gay romance. Reforged by Seth Haddon is a silly sword and sorcerery sexy romp. And Pansies by Alexis Hall is just lovely.

Lovecraftian as genre is so interesting. It works super well as a detective story, but Forgive Me Father shows it as a great FPS and Conan shows it's sword and Sorcerery uses.

I guess if I can only pick one it'd be Dragon Quest. It is what got me into sword and sorcerery style fantasy.

Though each campaign has much more particular inspirations.

I would love an adult anthro fantasy a la Redeall but with carnivores as protags -- like, sword and sorcerery vibes

Day 7 of #worldbuildingjanuary SNIPPET: beginning/new

This is Ch.1 of "A Murder in Min'Krinath" from the collection Shadowvaster in Min'Krinath. I'm calling this entry cozy sword & sorcerery.

Sci-fi book recommendations, please - Space Opera or Sword and Sorcerery preferred!

Yeah, I like the headcanon that the Carian Sorcerery sword was his before finding his enlightenment in the finger ruins. Have some sketches about it 🗡️✨

Expedition to the Barrier Peaks

So everyone knows that Final Fantasy (NES) is just D&D the Videogame but the campaign that seems to be the direct influence is this one.

Step 1: Sword n Sorcerery
Step 2: A disease
Step 3: Surprise, science fiction!
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Profit

Dark fantasy similar to Conan the Barbarian.

Recently listened to Conan and the City of the Dead on audible. I've always been a huge fan of Conan and the sword and sorcerery genre. Anyone have any recommendations? Doesn't have to be another Conan story but …

It has a much lower chance to be currently displaying a sword and sorcerery novel written by a crazy person, incomparably inferior

At one time, I had the entire bookshelf of "phonebooks"

The first one was standard sword-and-sorcerery stuff.

And then right around "Reads" it became an illustrated novel for a bit, and then...

There used to be "I survived Jaka's Story" t-shirts...
