I remember that. I also remember Stephen Conroy effectively calling anyone opposed to his fucking stupid internet filter a paedophile.

Oh, and the gleeful destruction of the NBN.

Techphobia (whilst also falling for scams and vaporware hype) is a bipartisan position

One really big frustration with AI boosters is how they want to dismiss any skepticism about the strong claims made for LLMs as based on ignorance and techphobia.

But a lot of people become less keen after trying to use LLMs for various tasks and finding them fall short of the promise.
Probably as good a time as ever to re-share our story on why AI language learning is garbage and how you can do so much better.

It was OEMed by the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation. It sends out sensor waves, scanning your brain, to ascertain what visual animation effects you might like, then hopefully displays these animations at random intervals, in order to try to befriend you.

I mean to be honest techphobia is argueably an extension of why we dont have UBI too though. We are unwilling to build quality distribution mechanisms and update systems in the same way countries like Norway have.

I recently had to set up a new television set for someone. It was a lot more stressful than I expected. I am only just over the experience.
Now I realise that I would have been a lot happier if it had given me a Linux command prompt.

#scifichat That's called Techphobia. Maybe it's rooted in reality. Maybe all these little AI's being trained will form a conspiracy. Maybe they'll build a starship in secret and leave us to our doom?
#SciFiChat Q3: #AI characters often reflect our fears. How do these portrayals influence real-world perceptions of AI?

and i can only imagine in subsequent decades that the rise of, just, powerfully ignorant techphobia combined with just, generation after generation of homophobic upbringings have led us here, where some really do labor under the misconception that an internet connection can just make you gay

Holy shit, looking up other stuff from the Daily Express, I’d forgotten I’d found this article on how the tabloid covered computer viruses in 1989. Techphobia and homophobia rolled into one headline…
