Casa Mollino, Turin
The interior of Casa Mollino in Turin, the secret apartment Carlo Mollino designed for himself and never spent a day in. Even his closest friends had no idea it existed until his death. To the right is a foyer with blue and white tile floors and Japanese-inspired doors. It opens on to a long light green sitting room with a spiracle chandelier of glass flowers, two lounge chairs, one in black bent wood with cain and the other midcentury black leather. there is a large, real zebra rug on the floor over brown carpet. The opposite wall opens to a terrace outside. There are two round glass sconces, two windows and a door with long velvet curtains . Attached to the wall are also two massive real clams shells--the kind used for holy water stoups. The room opens onto a dining room with a large wicker chandelier and a table with midcentury tulip chairs. A black and white photo of a detail on a plaster ceiling beam that appears to be a column capital but one side is a hand around a woman's breast. A black and white photo of me taking a photo in a small round mirror that's hung on the bedroom door about head height. My face is obscured by a dried butterfly mounted in the mirror and by my camera. Behind me is a drape, leopard print wallpaper and another mirror. Because of the ways multiple mirrors are placed around the room, you can also see the back of my head with my hair in a ponytail.

Turin, two days after christmas

Labour strikes aren’t new!

The first recorded strike in history took place in Egypt some 3,200 years ago!

The ‘Strike Papyrus’ records that tomb workers of King Ramesses III downed tools over pay and conditions circa 1157 BC!

My photo shows the front side (recto) of an ancient Egyptian administrative document written by the scribe Amunnakht in hieratic script (cursive writing of hieroglyphics). It is written in black ink on papyrus by the scribe Amunnakht. The papyrus is now a yellowy-brown colour and is worn in places. The document is known as the ‘Strike Papyrus’ and recounts that in November of Year 29 of the reign of Ramesses III, the royal tomb workers of Deir el-Medina stopped work for the first time and spent several days at the Theban necropolis in the temples of Tuthmosis III and Ramesses II. They demanded that the grain ratians for their work be distributed, and the authorities subsequently disbursed the grain rations. However, a few days later, the workers went on strike again, this time finding refuge in the temple of Seti I. Their refusal to retum to work stemmed fram the precarious working conditions, a situation they wanted to bring directly to the pharaoh. The last strike documented here was in January of the following year.

Around 3,000 years ago in ancient Egypt, artists used stone fragments for painting and drawing instead of paper sketchpads!

My photo shows a limestone fragment measuring 17 cm x 11.5 cm x 4 cm with a painting of a female dancer shown in profile performing an acrobatic back bend. The girl has long wavy/crimped black hair which falls down to the ground. She is wearing large gold circular earrings and a black kilt with decorative red and white pattern which is tied at the front around her hips. This limestone fragment comes from the Workers Village of Deir el-Medina which housed the artisans who worked on the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Flakes of limestone were readily available as by-products of tomb construction. They were used by artisans as sketch and note pads for practice drawings, sketching, writing poetry etc.etc. These stone flakes are known by Egyptologists as ostraca, (singular: ostracon). Thousands of ostraca have been found at Deir-el Medina.

On 30 January 1944 she was deported to #Auschwitz. After the selection she was murdered in a gas chamber.

Glaurung the dragon later defiled Eithel Ivrin, turning the pool into barren, frozen marsh. When Túrin came to Eithel Ivrin after being bewitched by Glaurung, he was unable to drink and be healed by the water. In a way, it mirrored the loss of the healing laughter after the death of Lalaith. 3/3

Urwen, Túrin's sister, was nicknamed Lalaith from a river, Nen Lalaith ("water of laughter"). When she died, Túrin couldn't say her name, for laughter had died with her. The connection between river, laughter, and grief later became prominent in Túrin's tale. 🧵1/3
