Hello from the world’s most soothing place, the wax fruit museum in Turin.

So, I am thinking Túrin Turambar is actually an exile from an unknown Michael Moorcock alternate universe. He even has the black sword with a mind and a hunger of its own.

Labour strikes aren’t new!

The first recorded strike in history took place in Egypt some 3,200 years ago!

The ‘Strike Papyrus’ records that tomb workers of King Ramesses III downed tools over pay and conditions circa 1157 BC!

Went to Turin for a conference on Militarization, Sexualization, and Violence--met wonderful new colleagues & learned A LOT about the twinned forces of Italian fascism & colonialism. Then, I stayed on for a bit.

It's impossible to verify the actual existence of any individual figures from such an ancient, myth-shrouded time, though there are intriguing similarities between the black swords of Túrin Turambar and Elric.
I'm thinking that (in a Wold-Newton sense) Tolkien's Eldar, Moorcock's Melnibonéans, and Clark Ashton Smith's Hyperboreans may all be different interpretations of the same advanced pre-human species

Artist’s painting of an acrobatic dancer on a flake of limestone, c. 1292 - 1077 BC.

Around 3,000 years ago in ancient Egypt, artists used stone fragments for painting and drawing instead of paper sketchpads!

Glaurung the dragon later defiled Eithel Ivrin, turning the pool into barren, frozen marsh. When Túrin came to Eithel Ivrin after being bewitched by Glaurung, he was unable to drink and be healed by the water. In a way, it mirrored the loss of the healing laughter after the death of Lalaith. 3/3

Urwen, Túrin's sister, was nicknamed Lalaith from a river, Nen Lalaith ("water of laughter"). When she died, Túrin couldn't say her name, for laughter had died with her. The connection between river, laughter, and grief later became prominent in Túrin's tale. 🧵1/3
