Found one of these again! 😃Thyreosthenius biovatus, from inside a wood ants nest in a wood in northern Derbyshire last weekend 🕷️🐜 #ukspiders #arachnids #spiders

🕷️ Heard a buzzing whilst I was watering the onions and found a battle was going on between a black slip wasp and a false widow spider (I think!).

🐝 If you look closely you can see the spider using its silk to wrap and immobilise the wasp.

Bit of an old pic (taken on a rare sunny day 😀), but still a valuable part of nature, the humble garden spider

This unusual spider is a Spitting Spider (Scyctodes thoracica). A new species for me and a very welcome find on an after-dark mooch around the garden. One of the few UK spiders with only 6 eyes.

Garden Spider (Araneus diadematus) in the (you guessed it!) garden, Leeds UK. June 2025.

Another 'macro' shot taken on my iPhone 7 Plus.

Spitting spider! And she has an egg sac 😄 I'm always happy to find these fascinating and unique spiders in the house (and they can have all the silverfish they want!) #SaturdaySpider #SpiderSky #UKSpiders #Spider

Busy starling parents.
I've used insect hashtags, because they are the essential part of this moment, part of the food chain...

A standoff by the front door last night, Acleris logiana vs Odiellus spinosus (if obsidentify is to be believed). Both disappeared by morning, possibly the last moth action of the year #teammoth #ukspiders

I noticed something odd on the back of this Clubiona terrestris’s cephalothorax but I didn’t twig what it was until it had eaten most of the spider’s abdomen, pupated and emerged as a rather lovely Schizopyga frigida. #parasitism. From Cranwich Camp on 21-Mar with @davidnorgate.bsky.social

🏠🕷 Did you know? Autumn is spider season in the UK! These eight-legged visitors are not just harmless housemates but also natural pest controllers, consuming thousands of insects every year.

Even the best predators sometimes miss their catch. This Tube Web Spider (Segestria florentina) isn't going hungry, though – a prime position under this lamp means plenty of nighttime visitors @britishspiders.bsky.social #spiders #ukspiders

Hi can @britishspiders.bsky.social I’d this species for me. Very active and hard to photograph as it would not stop walking. Male? 30mm across the legs (approx), distinct pale yellow markings on the abdomen. Safely released!

It jumped from the table (they are a species of "Jumping spider" after all! 😁) onto my leg, and then climbed up on to the bench's armrest to get a better view of me! Love, or lunch? 😅 #ZebraSpider #JumpingSpider #UKSpiders #Spiders #Kent #England

I found a wishlist species for me yesterday 😀 - the Lichen Running Crab Spider (Philodromus margaritatus). I spent another couple of hours staring at tree trunks but couldn't find any more! 😅🔎

Spiders aren’t my favourite things as a rule but sometimes I can’t resist trying to put a name to them. This little one was in my garden moth trap in September and as it was sort-of pretty and had developed pedipalps I thought it was worth a go. Ozyptila praticola if I’m not mistaken. #UKspiders
