I wonder if this was expressed as publicly owned, or socially owned, supermarkets would the response be different?

If we can't get the majority of people behind not for profit groceries (supporting local, sustainable food production), we're losing.

Should the government introduce state-owned supermarkets?
People Before Profit has proposed the introduction of state-run grocery shops.

7 Local Councils have passed a motion calling on the Govnt to retain the Triple Lock. The motion was due to come before Galway Council today but it was deemed 'irrelevant' to the needs of city and county.

Protest today against this latest effort to block democratic debate.

Northern Ireland is caught in a brutal cycle - poverty and division grow while elites and their political allies manipulate sectarian games to protect obscene wealth and unaccountable power. As they enrich themselves, local communities are left behind with broken promises and few opportunities.
A dark textured background with bold white and lime green text. Headline reads “Northern Ireland is trapped in a brutal cycle - poverty and division deepen while political elites play sectarian games to protect their own power and privilege.” The subtext below says “For 27 years, they’ve taken turns governing - and delivering little more than broken promises.” Several words are highlighted in lime green: “political elites” and “delivering little more than broken promises.” Green Party logo and a stylised right-pointing arrow appear at the bottom. Black mottled background with large white headline: “Failed Elites, Collapsing Communities.” Below, in smaller white text: “Our economy is frozen; public services crumble; housing is a crisis of greed. Yet political leaders point fingers at each other - not their own catastrophic failure.” The words “not their own catastrophic failure” stand out in lime green. Green Party logo and a right-pointing arrow feature at the bottom. The left two thirds of the background are dark, fading into teal on the right. The headline in white: “Austerity Is Their Weapon.” Body text reads: “Britain enforces brutal austerity while our sectarian power-sharing elite clings to a stagnant system designed to keep us divided and powerless.” The phrases “brutal austerity” and “keep us divided and powerless” are highlighted in lime green. The Green Party logo and arrow sit at the bottom. Teal textured background. Large white headline: “Profiting from Our Pain.” Underneath: “Corporate fat cats and property developers feed off public land sales and housing misery, while paramilitary shadows police communities with fear and control.” The words “police communities with fear and control” are highlighted in lime green. Green Party branding visible at the bottom.
