Tail end of a long year since the ANU churn started - there’s a long way to go yet but this week is significant as a moment of people standing up to ‘information hygiene’, faux participation and the corporate University www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09...
ANU vice-chancellor resigns after months of controversy
Genevieve Bell has bowed to intense pressure and resigned from her position as Australian National University vice-chancellor.

Thanks for all you did Francis, it’s a broken system and needs urgent change - instead the spotlight is placed on every ANU employee who questions or advocates for change

Shocked to learn from other members at our @nteuact.bsky.social union meeting today about apparent errors in org charts and position roles in ANU’s current change proposals to cut and redefine positions - are positions being cut and changed without knowing who does what and where?

"We are in a terrible situation where the Australian National University needs to be protected from its own leadership... The vice-chancellor apparently knows the cost of staff, but not the value of staff."

Staff in CASS have been called into meetings and told their jobs are “at risk.” When they ask questions or request further information, they’ve been told to wait and ask those questions at a town hall tomorrow.

Now staff are being told in-person “tickets” for the town hall are “sold out”. 🫠

Really tough week in the ANU college of arts & social sciences. Committed, respected & highly impactful staff have been told their jobs are no longer & about 30 ppl are facing forced redundancy. It’s come as a complete shock to identified individuals. No consultation, no warning.

Global average temperature is expected to rise to almost 2C above preindustrial in the next five years, according to the WMO, with falls in crop yields and more than a third of the world’s population being exposed to extreme heat.

People, I'm sorry but we have to deal with this. Later is too late.

Open letter: The ANU executive is planning a new round of unnecessary and damaging cuts and forced redundancies. We are asking staff to sign this open letter calling on the executive to cancel planned CMPs and to be transparent about ANU’s finances.

ANU colleagues please sign and share widely.

A message for ANU colleagues who have found their way here - please consider voting no next week. Many of us want to help maintain jobs, but this vote to give away a hard-won wage rise will hit casuals and ECRs hard - and there are no management guarantees that jobs will actually be saved
