Something grimly predictable about the way that the conversation about 'ripoff degrees' in the UK is always about degrees that aren't rip-offs, but are instead fairly obvious 'this student has chosen something unlikely to pay off economically' rather than the short tail of crap business degrees:
Everyone needs educating in the fight over university degrees
Political confusion over the purpose of these institutions means the obvious fixes are being neglected

Me (to The Internet, everybody listening, or just looking my way for more than 5 sec): „Look what we did!“
I received the prints of our #RepresentationMatters publication yesterday evening. It’s not only a collection of papers on the way we reproduce and communicate our knowledge towards audience.
A middle aged white Woman with an red updo and big glasses holding a large book, title says diversity in visual representations of the past. Representation matters.

The Animal #aDNA Research Community is looking for new members to its steering committee!

If you are an ECR and interested in the field, we would love to have you on board. We particularly would value committee representation from outside of Europe.

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

archaeological science (americanist), archaeological science (European), archaeological theory (British).

Not pictured: all their women colleagues who couldn't make the panel because they were swamped under heavy service and teaching expectations

Photo of a Kansas City Chiefs press conference with Andy Reid, Travis Kelce, and Patrick Mahomes. Reid is wearing a gray suit and red tie with a lapel pin. Kelce is wearing a camp-style short-sleeved shirt with a bird print, along with a suede cap, and Mahomes is wearing a white collared shirt, a pink checkered double-breasted vest, and a pale pink tie.

my last issue of EJA just published, including a very self indulgent valedictory editorial.

Feeling bittersweet again, but so glad @zenakamash.bsky.social and Marianne are there to take the reins

Awful news from Wales, the St Fagan's Museum has been broken into and prehistoric goldwork has been taken. Its painful to think what objects might now be at risk. Thoughts with the museum team who must be devastated, all speed to the police and a curse on the crooks.

one of the drivers of linguistic innovation (new words, but also new ways to pitch, pronounce, etc) is adolescent girls talking to each other. those who have kids teach these innovations to them and so the whole language shifts
Teenage Girls Have Led Language Innovation for Centuries

yeah it gets gobbled up whenever i make it. i use fresh roast beets that i puree rather than tinned, but i honestly don't think it would make much difference

the best thing about studying the past, is that the past isn't singular - there are myriad padts depending on what questions you ask and whose eyes you look through

yeah "graduating" to serious, complicated history from basic historical narratives is a really mind altering feeling for folks who like knowing how things work and why the world looks the way it does

how Irish catholic, you ask? over 10% of my public high school graduating class was named some variation of Catherine, Caitlin or Kathleen

I've mentioned the frankly unusual ap us history class my high school offered, but ap euro history was similarly expansive. we stuudied the English civ war extensively. can't help but think part of this down to growing up in v Irish Catholic MA in the 90s when the Troubles were very much top of mind

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about it!!!! We are told in high school, even in AP classes, that the Puritans came to the US seeking religious freedom.

The new Wiley journal review system is an absolute nightmare. Editorial assistants have been replaced by a clunky, AI-enabled website that makes it harder to find and invite reviewers. Associate editor workloads have increased. I'm not convinced the invitations to reviewers are even going through.

I'm starting to work on designing my "Archaeology and the Public" course for next spring. Does anyone have syllabi, assignments, or lesson plans they'd be willing to share on the subjects of public arch, collaborative arch, pseudoarch, or journalistic & pop culture depictions of arch?🏺 #academicsky
