The Browns are about to play ALL of these teams, including the worst defense in the league this week.

If Kevin can't figure it out against these teams, they gotta fire him ASAP.

The four defenses of the AFC East in DVOA

Jets 25
Bills 26
Patriots 29
Dolphins 32

The Commanders were mocked when they hired Dan Quinn and Kliff Kingsbury, including by me. But they took a swing and it paid off.

The Browns need to fire everyone and start fresh and make a bold hire.

I promise it can't get much worse than 4-21 over the past 25 games.

I really wish Browns fans would just forget about 2020.

That roster is not coming back.

That Stefanski is not coming back.

That Bill Callahan is not coming back.

The NFL evolves QUICKLY.

Trying to bring back the "Stefanski" offense was a mistake. Browns fans should want to innovate, not revert.

Regarding the Browns stadium deal, I said before the only "talent" Jimmy Haslam has is spending money to make things go away.

That's why Deshaun Watson is the prototypical Browns QB.

Anyway, I will believe the Browns new stadium is as nice as the renderings the moment I see it, not before.

The Browns don't have a functional offense & the defense, while very good, has pronounced weaknesses.

The biggest indictment of Andrew Berry isn't drafting or FA, it's overall roster construction.

By that metric, the 2025 draft is actually a strike against him rather than an argument in his favor.

Graham, Judkins, and Schwesinger look to be starters. Are they going to be stars or difference-makers? Too early to tell for sure.

More crucially, do any of them play an elite position?

The Browns can draft a Pro Bowl DT RB and LB every year for a decade and they will still have a losing record.
andrewspayde.bsky.social
The most common defense of Berry right now is how many rookies are playing.

That's happening ::because they don't have enough resources to bring in other options::

Fannin and Bond getting fed targets the past few weeks is NOT a good thing. The Browns are just desperate for anyone to contribute.

Speaking of Andrew Berry being smarter than everyone, here's my thread from draft night in April.

I think it has aged pretty well.

Six weeks in and the Browns are gonna be starting Thayer Munford this week. Meanwhile, Membou looks like the real deal with the Jets.
andrewspayde.bsky.social
Literally 4/5ths of the Browns OL will be out of contract next year and Bitonio and Conklin are likely to retire.

The fifth guy and presumptive left tackle of the future is Dawand Jones who was not good in 2024.

Meanwhile, at DT, the Browns JUST spent a 2nd Rd pick last year at the position. (2/3)
andrewspayde.bsky.social
Browns fans, is it good when other teams' head coaches are actively clowning the general manager? Does that mean things are on the right track?
diannarussini.bsky.social
Mike Tomlin on the Joe Flacco trade: “Andrew Berry must be a lot smarter than me or us, because it doesn’t make sense to me to trade a quarterback that you think enough of to make your opening-day starter to a division opponent that’s hurting in that area.“

(via @mikedefabo.bsky.social)
andrewspayde.bsky.social
Agreed on all points.

And this year, Membou looks like a Pro Bowler and they drafted a DT top five.

In direct contradiction to the analytics common wisdom of positional value.
andrewspayde.bsky.social
Browns have the 6th most expensive OL this year by AAV, and it's the second-worst in the league in pass protection.

What Berry has done to the OL room is a fireable offense in and of itself.

Pass protection composite ratings

Audibly laughed when I saw the bottom 2. Have fun with that, Joe Flacco

Guaranteed contract, active for three games, 6 targets, 1 catch
andrewspayde.bsky.social
I know Mike Vrabel would likely not have chosen Cleveland over New England, but we'll never know
...and he was in the building in Cleveland.

I have a feeling that's going to be a(nother) long term regret for the Browns, not trying to hire Vrabel when they had the chance.

This thread is amazing. I'm curious to know which book you'd recommend to someone who has never read Pynchon?
andrewspayde.bsky.social
Jerry Jeudy got absolutely bitched today.
sethwalder.bsky.social
Thus far in Week 5, there's only been one CB-WR matchup that occurred at least 15 times and resulted in 0 receiving yards:

Isaiah Rodgers vs. Jerry Jeudy.

17 matchups, two targets, zero receptions, per NFL Next Gen Stats.

PS5 beep followed by sounds of shamisen music coming from my controller...

As a corollary, if they do decide to clean house, how attractive would the GM or HC job really be, considering the cap hell to come?
andrewspayde.bsky.social
The biggest Browns unknown for me:

What's the opinion of DePodesta within the ownership group?

He bears more responsibility for the past decade than anyone other than Haslam himself, in my estimation.

But DePo has also been successful at deflecting blame onto others. Does his time run out?
andrewspayde.bsky.social
There's no hard evidence, but I think the Watson saga just broke these guys. Like, I don't think they still believe football works the way they thought it did.

And, I would add, Kevin has never really been strong at designing a dropback passing offense which is another team-building challenge.
andrewspayde.bsky.social
The Browns have intentionally made winning very difficult for themselves with the way they have built this team.

I have said since the draft, there is no coherent team building philosophy anymore, it's just a constant stream of flip-flopping course corrections.
cyberoprahz.bsky.social
If your strategy for building a functional offense is this group of WRs, this offensive game plan, and this reliance on 12+ play drives where no one steps on their dick or missies an assignment is a losing one.

Expecting the defense to keep it under 20 every week is also a losing one.
itstcg.bsky.social
I'm sure this is what we'll see from here on out. It's fine if it's the end for Berry and Kevin. They haven't earned more time.
andrewspayde.bsky.social
Two things are true:

The Stefanski offense hasn't delivered for the Browns for years.

The Browns offense has bottom three talent in the league.

A full organizational reset is badly needed.
andrewspayde.bsky.social
Isaiah Bond had SEVEN targets today against the Vikings.

2 catches for 29 yards
andrewspayde.bsky.social
At WR, Tillman and Jeudy have regressed. Bond is raw and not ready for a full time role.

Other than those players, I don't see a player worth developing.

How many games can you win with a rookie QB, one good running back, and two good tight ends?

Browns are gonna find out.

On the OL, Dawand Jones probably isn't a starter.

Leveston and Lucas have been terrible.

Pretty clear this front office really struggles to evaluate offensive line play.
