#PlumeScrolling Daggerstrike Murderbeak, a Grey Heron I photographed at Forest Farm, Cardiff, back in May. So glad I decided to prioritise #NaturePhotography earlier this year, before my thyroid condition began to limit what I could do! #Birds 🦉 🌿
In this photo, almost all of the Grey Heron can be seen standing in some long grass, with buttercups and other wildflowers - the vegetation is covering most of the bird's long legs however. As the bird's name suggests, the plumage is mainly various shades of grey, but the top of the head is black, they eye is yellow with a black pupil and black rim, and the long, powerful beak is blackish above and an orangey-yellow below.

#31DaysOfGraves Day 10: Urn

An urn on the top of the large upright tomb chest of the family of William Atcherley (1778-1850) and his wife Mary, née Cureton (1780-1810) of Shrewsbury, in the churchyard of Baschurch All Saints, Shropshire.
Photo showing the top part of an upright tomb chest, on top of which is an urn carved from stone. The inscription on the side of the tomb facing the camera reads "Sacred to the memory of William Atcherley, Shrewsbury, fourth son of Thomas and Hannah Atcherley of Stanwardine in the Fields, who died Oct. 15th 1850, aged 72 years."

One from the spring: this exceptionally cute gosling’s parents are Egyptian Geese. You always know that spring is just around the corner as these little babies are usually the first hatchlings of the year. This one is from April, but I’ve regularly seen them in early February. #birds #ukwildlife

Barry the Blue Tit listened carefully as I explained that the rising cost of peanuts meant he wasn't going to be getting them every time I visited. #ukbirds #wildlife #nature #EastCoastKin

Might be worth a try. Though for me it would have to be without Chat GPT as I'm allergic to generative AI (well, to its environmental impacts).

Would that include a restricted image set?

Excellent – the latest Time Police novel is out today, and a link up with the ‘tea-sodden disaster magnets’ of the Institute of Historical Research at St Mary’s is in progress. “Once again everything was about to go tits up. He had no idea just how up the tits were about to go. [...]”

There would definitely be a few entries for people who came from or went to Waters Upton, but mainly I would want to transcribe and put them online somewhere for the benefit of others. If I could only manufacture more time... 😂
atcherleyons.bsky.social
I'm not sure there's anything else for Waters Upton. Need to go digging to see if there might be something for Fawsley. And if I didn't already have so much to transcribe, I'd love to do the post 1812 parish registers for Hodnet in Shropshire (via BTs), which aren't online anywhere AFAIK.

Positivity in my area over 30%. And a potential side effect of my thyroid medication is decreased resistance to infection... 😷
skeuomorphology.bsky.social
The PCR positivity map is out, and UKHSA have finally deigned to describe covid activity as "medium".

UKHSA national positivity is 13.23%.

Adjusted for non-reporting we make it 15.27%.

Got some great #OnePlaceStudy records this way (Bishops Transcripts, School Log Book, Overseers Accounts, Vestry Minutes)! Some transcribed and added to my Waters Upton website, some still to be completed. Thanks again Áine! #GenHour

It’s always a joy to see a Stoat, even if only very briefly. This one bounced across a path at RSPB Greylake in the Somerset Levels this morning & I managed just a single photo before it disappeared into the vegetation.

#31DaysOfGraves Day 9: Hand

Back to my Fawsley #OnePlaceStudy, and 2 pics combined. You may recognise the Birds from Day 5 in the upper part of the image; this view reveals figures with hands held in prayer. Below are Jane Knightley (née Skenard) and husband Sir Richard again, hands also in prayer.
Two photos combined in one image. Top: Part of a massive monument on a church wall. On a whitish background are a coat of arms plus crest in the centre, on either side of which is a black tablet with gold lettering, then a figure (top half only, on a pillar), upright, in grey-blue garb with gold hair and belt, and hands held together, and finally more heraldic designs adding colour (red, gold, silver, black and blue) to the scene. Below: The top parts of two recumbent alabaster effigies, with their hands held in prayer.

If you are following #31DaysOfGraves posts, you'll have seen several gravestones like this today as the prompt for Day 9 is Hand. Another pic from Treflys St Michael, near Morfa Bychan.
Photo of the top part of a gravestone, which has an Ivy leaf decoration around the outside, enclosing a pair of holding hands which represent the husband and wife buried in the grave below.

It’s Red Squirrel Awareness Week
A beautiful Red from the Dingle on Anglesey.
#photography #UKwildlife #RedSquirrelAwareness
A Red Squirrel sitting on a branch. Her face full on to the camera, but looking down at the Hazelnut that is clasped in her front paws. Her ears pointing up with wonderful tufts, and her tail rising up behind her. The branch is moss covered and littered with already broken nutshells.

It certainly looks like one. But if it doesn’t move, it’s a model that has been installed to scare pigeons! 😄

More glass for #31DaysOfGraves Day 8. My pics of the whole window (in Waters Upton church) aren't great, so here's an image combining the three parts of it memorialising Mary Elizabeth Hobson. She was living with her brother, the Rev Samuel Hobson, when she died at the age of 74. #OnePlaceWednesday
Three images combined, showing the bottom parts of three panes of a stained glass window erected "To the Glory of God and in loving memory of Mary Elizabeth only daughter of the late Rev. S. Hobson Vicar of Tuttington, Norfolk, Who died at waters Upton July 3rd 1917."
