I'm curious as to what the industry was like to work in during the early days. Today it seems like most of us grew up playing games and that's our motivation, but in the 70s and early 80s, was it more hoping you stumble on something people may like, not even knowing if you like it yourself?

I hope this little dude never outgrows the part of his personality that says “if you see an open human hand, that’s where your tiny face should go”. He does it literally all the time. If I present my hand to him and he’s not super hyper (even if he is sometimes), he just puts his head there.

One thing that tempers my desire to go wild is that I'm 98% old white cis dude and I don't want to misrepresent or appropriate other cultures and ethnicities. But any other culture than my own is so much more interesting to me, it's hard.

People have asked me before if I have compromised my games to appease the current political climate. I haven't. But sometimes I wish I had made things more inclusive back when I was designing the plot in 2011-2013-ish, if only because I am so tired of the same old same old.

It's a thing, like, there are signs posted outside my son's school that say no bullying. They actively teach kids empathy and emotional intelligence and such. It's a pretty stark contrast to how things were 40 years ago.

I somehow expected this, not because it's rational, but because there seems to be so many cases of "let's Bring Back a Shitty Thing" going on that it fit right in.
