I'm curious as to what the industry was like to work in during the early days. Today it seems like most of us grew up playing games and that's our motivation, but in the 70s and early 80s, was it more hoping you stumble on something people may like, not even knowing if you like it yourself?

Minor medical situation on the flight and it’s cool that my wife is able to jump up and help out when they ask for a licensed medical professional.

One day someone will need a regular expression so I stay ready.

The Animal internet just has pictures of cute human hands reaching out for cuddles

I hope this little dude never outgrows the part of his personality that says “if you see an open human hand, that’s where your tiny face should go”. He does it literally all the time. If I present my hand to him and he’s not super hyper (even if he is sometimes), he just puts his head there.

It's 48 hours since Little Rocket Lab launched, we've been top of New and Trending for the entire time, 94% rating on Steam, huge player numbers, big numbers on Game Pass, tons of streams and YT videos...

and we've still received next to no press at all

The press for smaller games is just dead.

One thing that tempers my desire to go wild is that I'm 98% old white cis dude and I don't want to misrepresent or appropriate other cultures and ethnicities. But any other culture than my own is so much more interesting to me, it's hard.

People have asked me before if I have compromised my games to appease the current political climate. I haven't. But sometimes I wish I had made things more inclusive back when I was designing the plot in 2011-2013-ish, if only because I am so tired of the same old same old.

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

It's a thing, like, there are signs posted outside my son's school that say no bullying. They actively teach kids empathy and emotional intelligence and such. It's a pretty stark contrast to how things were 40 years ago.

This book is awesome, like a combo of browsing an old toy store and a gaming magazine at the same time. Unfortunately I missed volume 1 and 3 but I would love to have a whole encyclopedia of these covering gaming history.

I somehow expected this, not because it's rational, but because there seems to be so many cases of "let's Bring Back a Shitty Thing" going on that it fit right in.
Same for any forthcoming calls to Bring Back Dysentery, Public Stonings, Lobotomies, Pistol Duels, Human Sacrifice, Trepanning, etc.

NYT: A Campaign to 'Bring Back Bullying'

On social media, some are arguing that bullying deserves a second look. Trolling or not, the push seems to reflect a general turn away from sensitivity.

I feel very disappointed when someone I respected makes fun of someone by insulting their appearance or other qualities they can't control. It's tantamount to making fun of everyone who has similar qualities, regardless of whether they've done something wrong.

This is amazing; I very much agree with the how the report calculated value to society here:
www.gov.ie/en/departmen...

But for people excited about a *literal* profit machine, note that the real net fiscal cost was almost €72M. It made €146M due to the estimated value of gains in mental wellbeing.
axiomverge.bsky.social
It's really interesting to me that somebody actually calculated the monetary value of mental well being and this is a standardized thing people have been using. Like... How does the monetary benefit of mental well being stack up to tariffs? Could we use it to reduce taxes?

I've tried to keep quiet about this angle per the simpsons observation that you don't win friends with salad, but yeah been vegan 23 years and seeing people who defend factory farming for flavor and tradition wondering if their teddy ruxpin can suffer and needs ethics consideration sure is something
