3 years ago today, Riot Games offered me a job making more money than I ever thought I’d make in my life. I had 19 interviews over 2.5 months to get it. Partner and I were moving to LA for it. I put in notice at my job and apartment.

2 weeks later they rescinded the offer due to “headcount issues”.

The best way journalists can support indie games is to cover more than whatever the current indie hits/darlings of the moment are. Games like Hades, Blue Prince, and Silksong do not need help with visibility, but discoverability is the biggest challenge facing many indie devs today.

Anyway, play Alien Isolation
I feel like however one might land on Metroid prime 1 wrt gameplay it at least understood that the core emotional experience was tension, isolation, and a brooding ominousness, and the further they moved from sci-fi towards science fantasy space opera the more it felt like they lost that

i wrote an article recently about how powerful silence is in super metroid and i am thinking about it today for i guess no reason www.avclub.com/super-metroi...
The strength of Super Metroid's soundtrack is in its silences
Super Metroid's music is crucial to the game's unsettling, hostile atmosphere--and especially the way that soundtrack uses silence.

These guys found a way to combine recycled cardboard and dirt to replace concrete. Pretty cool!

It’s funny catching wind that my posts against generative ai have raised a few eyebrows and pissed a few people off. I’d love to be able to give a fuck, but first I’d need to steal a million fucks from other people, and have a machine randomly assemble small parts of those fucks together for me

I'm happy to reveal that WARP ZONES will be in Super Sunny World 🌞 (my upcoming NES platformer).

They are hard to find, but easy to reach again once you know where they are (similar to Mario Bros). This should make the limited-lives style of gameplay more enjoyable.

It was unexpected that when filing a claim with @geeksquad.bsky.social protection plan, I still needed to pay $200 to repair the phone. (The phone is still under warranty but warranty claims take longer than I can afford to wait right now).

really my problem with the traditional game industry is it feels like everything gets put on two poles, both of which are unquestioned: the grimdark fantasies of violence and conquest and the cartoony family-friendly fantasy that's just pure escapism and we don't have to think about anything.
