like i'm imagining a game where said reveal is much earlier and actually has meaning, Melinoe kills Chronos, learns about her family's abusive tendencies and the lack of any meaningful change in behavior on their parts, and decides "nah I'm good hanging out with my found family of witches actually"

and then there's the second ending and plot twist after that, which...there's the kernel of something interesting in there, and I think a better writer could have made something fairly meaningful about reparenting oneself and breaking cycles of familial trauma out of it.

I feel like one of the biggest innovations of ttrpgs was essentially just acknowledging that the GM is a player as well. I don't think we're all fully there yet, but it's heading in that direction, and the bakers have been well ahead of the curve for a long time now

We weren't disempowering GMs, we were shifting part of the burden of GMing onto the players, because "the person upon whom a majority of the responsibility for the game's enjoyment rests" is not who we wanted to be.
