i think one very clear lesson of 2024 is necessity of having media infrastructure to reach public. right now legacy media is either passively or actively complicit and social media increasingly owned by allies of administration

“many prominent young republicans are actual Nazis” is a self-censoring fact at this point

normie swing voters will literally refuse to believe it and the media refuses to report it because it would call everything else they’ve done into question
beijingpalmer.bsky.social
while 'young republicans are literal nazis' is well known to folks here, the extent of it is surprisingly not that commonly known even in media and analyst circles, let alone normal people.

Altho also, an LLM's inherent design flaws are probably reason enough to not be useful for most disabilities. You can't trust transcription to a tool that hallucinate 30-80% of the time.
bookjockeyalex.bsky.social
And I don't think anything we have currently meets those criteria. But mostly, for me as a disabled person, my convenience doesn't outweigh destroying the planet. GenAI doesn't currently solve any disability related problems better than other less harmful tools.
bookjockeyalex.bsky.social
There could be good use cases for it, but I think they'd need to be developed specifically for disabled people with specific needs and with input from those communities (and done in a way that works with copyright and tries to mitigate environmental and labor disasters).

And you, governor, should stop providing state cops to police protesters for ICE at Broadview.
govpritzker.illinois.gov
ICE is recklessly throwing tear gas into our neighborhoods and busy streets, including near children at school and CPD officers.

The Trump Administration must stop their deployment of dangerous chemical weapons into the air of peaceful American communities.

One person on this list is a school counselor at a high school down the street from me and she’s been purged from the website so fast Google cache doesn’t know about it yet
bookjockeyalex.bsky.social
All the things her fans are complaining about now, for me it's like yeah. That's always been there. I thought that's what they liked about it. They're acting like she was a poet laureate before and not some moderately talented singer who gets by on being conventionally pretty, white, and thin.

Just a reminder the word remigrate is open Nazi language and should be seen as a threat of violence.

When the neo Nazis use this term their is another two words they use after it which are :or die

It’s important to understand the context that the word Remigrate is a threat to leave or be murdered.

I also can't figure out what shifted. I think she has some catchy (if not particularly thoughtful or deep) tunes in her catalogue, but otherwise her new album sounds exactly like all her others to me.

They're trying to prevent the student newspaper from printing news, period. Not just a particular story.

Indiana University fires IDS
adviser amid push to control
student newspaper's content The director of student media at Indiana University was fired amidst a dispute between university leadership and editors at the Indiana Daily Student over what content gets printed in the student newspaper.

As director of student media, Jim Rodenbush did not directly oversee or have any say over the content published in the IDS, per a charter between the IDS and the university. But he told IndyStar his firing follows a series of meetings with IU Media School leadership in which it grew increasingly apparent they were expecting him to officially prohibit students from publishing news.

Months before catastrophic floods swept through an Alaska Native village on Sunday, the Trump administration canceled a $20 million grant meant to protect the community from extreme flooding. At the time, the EPA administrator said he was eliminating "wasteful DEI and Environmental Justice grants."

It is engineering malpractice that this site has not yet implemented an option to allow people to private their accounts, given that they’re a US based company, and the US is going through what it’s going through.

But hey, waffles, amirite.

Thank you Kelly Jensen and @bookriot.bsky.social for reporting on what's now happening in one Texas school district... just like we feared/knew would happen.

New Braunfels ISD has closed its libraries to middle and high schoolers.

Little update. Mostly been off bsky coz I've had some complications involving fevers, bleeding. It's been a rough six weeks, physically, mentally, emotionally. Would have liked to have rested but I gotta pay for the hospital bills and various tests and medications. Anything you can spare will help.

Hi all; I'm going to undergo a significant procedure later this year (sorry, would rather not disclose) and my husband's health insurance doesn't cover it. We're going to need funds for the care during and after. Any help would be much appreciated:
