"This means Microsoft will no longer provide [Windows 10] feature updates, ..."

That's probably a blessing, given the quality of them in recent years.

"... security patches, ..."

That part sucks.

"... or official support for troubleshooting."

How is that any different to normal?

So much of COM is badly designed, but Apartments are the absolute dumbest shit.

They make a property that should be per-object apply to the entire thread and all objects it creates, when different objects may need different things.

IDK why GPUs still can't do it themselves, but I use this to make HDMI-CEC work with a Windows PC:

www.pulse-eight.com/p/104/usb-hd...

I think it can switch the TV's input as well, but I turned that off a long time ago and only have it set to make the TV remote control my media player.

it’s amazing that it’s 2025 and people are still deluded enough to believe that age verification on the internet actually works

this was apparent to me when *I* was an extremely online child

My bff is a high school teacher and can verify that the (freshman) children are absolutely mobile gambling in high numbers, an activity that *already* has laws defining it as an adult-only activity requiring age verification

As another Jewish woman in the industry, I can clear this up: It's due to her being an asshole.

Fox News host Emily Compagno claims that the backlash to Bari Weiss being named CBS News editor-in-chief is due to her being Jewish:

"This kind of thing would make me laugh if there was not an antisemitic thread in there."

(Ofc. with so many parts of the production line, plus licensing stuff, I can also understand why they want to move to the next thing once a run is done, but I hope they can both find a way be more flexible to meet demand when things go really well with a release.)
catovitch.bsky.social
Hah, wow. Good to know demand has met/exceeded their expectations at least. Better than the other way around.

Feels like both BoF and Spooky are leaving money on the table by not extending the runs when they have a hit on their hands. (Definitely with ED, and likely with Winchester.)

So we need RAID5 plus a sprinkler system for DNA.

Heh, debugging an issue with WIC, and I find my own code comment:

// Like all parts of WIC, the HEIF decoder is a massive piece of shit.

Can't argue with myself there, it still is.

Hopefully both companies keep doing the right things and grow bigger so this is less of an issue. It's not really something they can do anything about either. But it's so weird how you have to take a huge risk on new games before they're fully known/reviewed or miss out entirely.
catovitch.bsky.social
Don't buy a pinball game without playing it first, but we're also only making 500 of them and they're gonna sell out within the week after announcement. Cool, lol.

I love what Barrels and Spooky have been doing lately, but also doubt I'll ever play or own one of their games here in Spain.

Why don't we have RAID5 for DNA?

Flutter being completely broken on multiple OS and browsers, and for years on end, seems like a reason to never use Flutter.

But web development seems magnetically attracted to shit frameworks.
catovitch.bsky.social
Like, how do you even make a UI framework that can’t keep track of where it drew text on the screen?

In Deck on Windows the problems usually manifest as red spellchecker underlines in completely the wrong place, not over the word they belong to. But also text selection goes wrong sometimes.
catovitch.bsky.social
Discorse is using Flutter for its main post editor, which explains the years and years of bugs on iOS where it reacts to touch inputs as if they’re all higher up the screen and other weirdness.

Flutter is an unmitigated piece of shit, especially for text editing. It’s Deck.Blue’s biggest issue too.
