I had a blast covering @seattlein2025.org for @thedailyuw.bsky.social! My conversations with author @ceciliatan.com and Amy Gembala, president of @dfgamecon.bsky.social, were proof of the incredible range of the con. Topping it all off by attending the Hugo awards was a dream come true.

I prefer to spend exactly zero seconds of my life interacting with an A.I. wall downtown.
ericacbarnett.bsky.social
Downtown could have "like, a 10-foot wall" where people could talk to AI versions of historical figures. "How cool would this be if we had like, a 10 foot wall. It's interactive and it's historical. And you could talk to Martin Luther King."...

Just got an email from Bruce Harrell's campaign about the Mariners.
I know it's heresy to say right now, but imagine Seattle having a mayor that got fired up about the arts, or rallied to save longtime venues, or talked about a great show they saw at a club or theater, or celebrated a local author.

You guys may not be aware of it but there’s a silent struggle being fought between my competing desires to remain in bed, my need for coffee, and my urge to pee.

Like every mayor before him, Harrell wants arts and culture events downtown. The difference is that "you're going to see a lot of AI in it."

I used to get mad when people misused "decimated" to refer to things that weren't 1/10th destroyed, but I've given it some thought and now I've done a complete 360 on it

Watching Agatha with equally gay friends every week was genuinely a highlight of last year

I particularly love writing this kind of article because people are always excited to talk about their research! I learned so much in the research process and in the interview. And when I sent the article to my family, I learned my mom had dengue when she was in school!
chaitnad.bsky.social
I spoke to Professor Marissa Childs (of @uwdeohs.bsky.social) for @thedailyuw.bsky.social about what this means and why we should be concerned about it, even in the US where dengue is not (yet) common

I think this also applies in writing for newspapers (at least at college papers). Often, I'd like a lot more critique than I get!

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

One thing people should know is that Choe works for Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk's group, and was at the WH on behalf of that group

Jonathan Choe to Trump: "Another group right now that is behind antifa and working with antifa very closely based on the research that we have right now that we're gonna give to you and your team are the Democratic Socialists of America."

I'm writing a new arts column for @thedailyuw.bsky.social! In Seattle on Hold, I'll be exploring nearby branches of @spl.org to see what they have to offer students while the University Branch is under renovation. First up, Wallingford! Big thank you to library staff, who were very accommodating

While everything that falls under his purview is necessarily also Trump's fault, the direct impact from the destruction of USAid makes Elon Musk one of the worst mass murderers of the post-WWII worldstate and that is not a thing I will ever let go of no matter how hard captured media tries to do so.

Yeahhh I think it definitely makes getting into a new campaign harder, especially one with a bunch of new faces, but once I'm properly in it it's nice to be able to do hobbies and such along with

NEW: After paying for hotel rooms to shelter homeless people, Seattle deliberately left them vacant.

By the end of 2024, taxpayers were spending $4,200 a month per empty room at a time when thousands of residents were without a roof over their heads.
Seattle Spent Millions on Hotel Rooms to Shelter Unhoused People. Then It Stopped Filling Them.
Early last year, the city signed a $2.7 million lease extension to continue using a hotel’s rooms as shelter space. Yet despite committing to pay the rent, the city stopped sending people there.
