OK folks, this year I have one (1) short story eligible for Hugo & Nebula award nomination, and this is the first time I am remembering to actually do an #awardeligibility post. :-) Please think of "Large Emotional Models" when you fill out your noms. (Read free at SMT!)

I'll add: please use your local library. Check out the website, look at the services. Some are available for use from home.

Your local library may also host various groups, where you can meet your neighbors. People make community, which fights fascism. 🫶
Unsolicited advice for anyone on Bluesky who wants to fight fascism in 2026 - don't stress about following big national accounts.

Instead, follow LOCAL groups and people who are doing actual work on the ground. Join them and do stuff right in your community. THAT'S where the real action is. ❤️💪

I’m thrilled that @theflytrapmedia.com is republishing two of my pieces from the late, lamented Bitch Media, and this one, on fandom, is particularly close to my heart.
This week's reprint from Bitch Media is a delightful read from @rjelevi.bsky.social on finding joy in fandom during the darkest days of the early pandemic—timely for the dark times we are living through now.

Here's a non-paywalled version: archive.is/Ujj4G
But the gist is 1) Google will now let you change your email address without having to start a new account, and 2) Gemini AI is coming to all GMail users, not just paid ones. You can turn off the AI assistance but it's still "there."

Argh. My power is out again. It went out New Year’s Eve for about four hours around 1am and it’s been out today since around 11am. My tea is cold and I want to… oh, there, it came back on while I was typing!

In two weeks, the Orange County (FL) Library is hosting a fantastic FREE online writers conference.

You do NOT need to be an Orlando resident or have a library card.

This is a ridiculously good value, with an accomplished faculty.

Moving faster now in the road that's clear of ice. People are watching from their homes. Spontaneous chants are breaking out (and can periodically hear someone yelling, "a woman was murdered!").

This is so real, they tried it this morning in Bloomington. They stopped a man, people started honking horns, they split up to fuck with everyone else, which brought more attention and more noise, people got out of their cars and started filming, they left. They're cowards.
obviously not in the sense that it’s stopping everything, but they are being stalled so much by trying to find places where they aren’t watched, wasting so much manpower and resources on crowd control and even arresting observers they know will just get released. i am so proud of everyone

In Minneapolis this afternoon—

Hundreds are streaming across the snow and ice into Powderhorn Park for a rally and march demanding ICE leave Minnesota.

It is bitterly cold. There are hardcore Midwesterners out here making their way in with trekking poles.

The replies have turned into a very lovely rec list here 💕
I'm looking for books with transmasculine protagonists that might help me understand myself. I recently read Rules for Ghosting and found it relatable on so many levels. What's your top rec? I especially like romance, mystery, and sff. No sad endings please! 🌈📚💙

Special love to those who boost!

At Boston government center right now, next to the federal building. There are thousands of people gathered here in a massive crowd around the speakers against ICE.

A helicopter is circling lower than usual.

Small visible police presence.
