Considering how they treated (and continue to treat) the Japanese-Brazilians who moved to Japan over the last few decades, none of this is very shocking.

Japan’s far right is on the rise, alarming foreign workers. Nowhere is that anxiety more apparent than in the city of Toyota, where immigrants power the economy while facing political backlash.

For the longest time I wondered why the comic font Whizbang has such an intense italic slant. Way more than most italic variants. Then I realized that it was a near-exact match for John Costanza's lettering and he just did that. Lol at how strong that shear is!

SHELVED BY GENRE has completed the second half of THE SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING, in which Alan Moore & Co expand the character's mythology, making some truly baffling and ill-advised choices but also giving us some of the coolest-looking Swamp Things ever put on paper. rangedtouch.com/2025/10/10/s...

In “Peanuts,” Snoopy first appeared as the WWI flying ace 60 years ago, on October 10, 1965. (I’d wager that, thanks to Peanuts, the Sopwith Camel is the only WWI airplane most people can name.) Here’s the debut of the flying ace and his biplane, before the many battles with the Red Baron.

I have seen every available screen adaptation of IVANHOE (including the Italian peplum) but one version continues to elude me (I think it may actually be a lost film)

British people, check your attics!

Outstanding. Enjoy, i watched it a while ago. It's a great little look at his life and career

Pundits 15 years ago: of course rich people don't want us all ground into nutritional paste for their pets

Pundits today: it's time for us to have a serious conversation about whether we should be ground into nutritional paste for rich people's pets

For a modern example of a similar man made diaster with an apathetic response by those in power at the time that is not well known in the west, look at what happened to the Aral Sea.
danielgwilson.bsky.social
We do. It's called "apathy" or if you want to be really venomous, "laziness." Throughout human history, there have always been cases where those in power or who had power to prevent disasters they knew were coming simply did nothing because they were apathetic to the situation. It sucks.

We have truly not yet figured out how to cope with a person or institution that is "aware" of climate change, "accepts the science", but then decides to continue actively worsening it anyway

We don't even have a word or a phrase for this!

Mark Carney’s climate inaction is at odds with his awareness of climate change’s existential threat
Climate action no longer seems to be a priority for Prime Minister Mark Carney, despite his previous activism. This is bad news for Canadians and the climate.

One of two fair comics that made me cry, @mariabrennmb.bsky.social's 'In The Heart of the Island' is a 90-page folk-fantasy tale about unquestioningly following decades-long held traditions and the dangers such a path can lead towards.

Available now at the fair!

Italians have long embraced "I'd rather be a pig than a fascist" (from Miyazaki). I think we have found the American variant.

For marginalized creators, we are forced to write about our trauma for the eyes of our oppressor's and white creators get celebrated for never expanding their view of the world. (not always, but you get the idea)

Solipsism is one of the major downsides to the autobio as a genre (at least in my opinion) and why it becoming such a popular style of writing can has been a very mixed bag (again, in my opinion. I have thoughts haha).
