I camd into the arts with this fully in my mind. If I somehow become a mega seller/popular writer, then great, but otherwise, I am under no illusion
almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

Hey guys sorry to ask but would anyone be interested in a book? I need money for transport to the pharmacy tomorrow to pickup meds & I'd like to get a few groceries too.

Thank you. Sorry to ask for so much, I really do appreciate everyone's help so far with the illness.
I have an art book for #tyreecomic ! It's 62 pages at $10! Not only does it have art but I have some brief guides into my page process as well. There is even stuff I havent released publicly in it! It's a great way to support me currently and get a glimpse into my obsession

If you ever want to see more of something you read but don't feel like you can do anything about it because you're not an influencer or a publisher or a journalist, even just leaving a five star review online moves the needle. Even telling a friend "you'd like this too"!

For graphic novels, especially adult genre fiction, it's incredibly helpful to review it online, talk about it, recommend it to a friend—adult fiction in the graphic novel space is difficult to place, and nothing convinces readers that they'll like a book more than the personal testimonial.
If you like an author's work, the best thing you can do is buy it. The second best thing you can do is ask your local library to buy it. Or, do both!
A reminder that the median book deal for a debut author in the UK is £7000, paid over 12-18 months. (from 2022 Society of Authors report). Some of your favourite writers are struggling. societyofauthors.org/2022/12/06/a....
