Minimum wage used to be th amount you would have to be paid to survive and somewhere along the way it just became “this is how little you can pay your employees”, which isn’t the same thing, not even in the same moral ballpark

Re last RT: I remember the new owners of the place I work at balking at the LA county minimum wage and 1) you literally can’t pay us less 2) it doesn’t begin to cover rent for the majority of places in the area at all
