You’re not poor because you’re bad with money, you’re poor because everything is too expensive and your job doesn’t pay enough.

What is "plenary authority" and why is it a big deal that Miller said that Trump has it over the national guard?
4 frame comic where Miller slowly blinks. Text reads. A few hours ago, speaking on cnn about Trump's plan to send the national guard into us cities, Miller said : under title 10 of the us code, the president has plenary authority, has... He then fully stopped talking and just blinked at the camera, as if he realized that he said the quiet part out loud. "Plenary authority" means "complete power over a particular area with no limitayions". It is equivalent to ruling by decree, which us how Mussolini, Stalin or Hitler governed. Having "plenary authority" over the military would mean that Trump can just use the national guard as he pleases, no matter what the courts say. It's a power grab.

Echoing the quote below, and adding: /this/ is who so many liberals are hanging their hopes and dreams on? /Really/??

Absolutely fuck this man.

I read this comic back when it was still "Cheap Thrills", and it was good then. The author has only improved in time, and I adore everything about it. AND NOW IT COMES IN PRINT!

Thinking about the @lindsayellis.bsky.social video where she noted how white nationalists co-opted American history X and all these other “strong” critiques but can’t handle “Springtime for Hitler” because of how ridiculous it makes them look
espiers.bsky.social
I’m telling you: ridicule works. These guys are supposed to intimidate the citizenry and it’s very hard to do that when a guy in a frog suit is just staring you down and daring you to do something that makes it look like you’re afraid of a cartoon

Who would have imagined, watching the third episode of Andor (on Ferrix), that only 3 years later in the United States citizens must organize to protect their community by warning each other.

Little Free Anti-ICE Libraries: yesterday multiple people were abducted by ICE in my Chicago neighborhood (Avondale). This morning I added 40 ICE alert whistles to three different LFLs, including one box that is about a block from one of the kidnappings. I have ordered 700 whistles.
Bright orange individually packaged whistles, stapled to English and Spanish literature designed by Pilson Arts Community House in Chicago. They are placed inside a little free library in my neighborhood: Avondale in Chicago. In less that one year, Trump's economy has taken almost everyone down at least one level in Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.

Hey a thing I really don’t want to get lost here is that while Tylenol doesn’t cause autism, IT’S FINE TO BE AUTISTIC. Let’s not grant them the premise that autism should be eradicated in our way to correct the science, okay? Okay.

The following is a statement from the WGA on ABC’s decision to pull ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
WGA Statement on ABC's Decision to Pull ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
The right to speak our minds and to disagree with each other - to disturb, even - is at the very heart of what it means to be a free people. It is not to be denied. Not by violence, not by the abuse of governmental power, nor by acts of corporate cowardice.
As a Guild, we stand united in opposition to anyone who uses their power and influence to silence the voices of writers, or anyone who speaks in dissent. If free speech applied only to ideas we like, we needn't have bothered to write it into the Constitution. What we have signed on to - painful as it may be at times - is the freeing agreement to disagree.
Shame on those in government who forget this founding truth. As for our employers, our words have made you rich.
Silencing us impoverishes the whole world.
The WGA stands with Jimmy Kimmel and his writers.

If you're considering RSVPing to a demonstration to protest the regime that is currently asserting it's about to crack down on "leftist groups" I encourage you to just not fucking do that. Go to the protest, yes. Put your name on a list, absolutely the fuck not.
questauthority.bsky.social
I've looked at Indivisible's privacy policy. It is...not the most user-protective I have seen. (For starters, they can "share" your data with other groups.)

If you are considering RSVPing, I strongly encourage you to read it and make sure you know what you're signing up for.
questauthority.bsky.social
It's always good to be cautious about providing personal data, both off- and online.

When someone asks you for personal data - eg, by signing up for an event - it's always a good idea to ask yourself, at a minimum, "why do these folks need my data, and what are they going to do with it."

And every fucking time sex workers tell you, "This law will not solve the problem and also it will make it so much worse for the poor trafficked people you claim to care about," y'all:

1) Don't listen
2) Don't care
3) Don't notice how much worse it makes things for them
rosalarian.bsky.social
And sex workers have been dealing with all of this bullshit every day for so long! We have ideas, we have experience, we have knowledge. Nobody wants to hear it. They say including us will make their movements look bad. Back into the oubliette we go.

We could be 5 to 10 years from toothpaste that can regrow tooth enamel.

The scales are beginning to tip in favor of Mars once sustaining life. We’ll potentially know for sure by 2040.

The blue macaw is up to 160 individuals from an all-time low of 7, and confirmed to be breeding in the wild.

Sharing my favorite cloud/storm of all time for #CloudAppreciationDay.

Hard to believe its already almost the two year anniversary of the Ada, OK storm.
A supercell thunderstorm at night with pancake-stacked structure and lightning protruding out from the clouds in a few directions. A clear, starry sky sits to the left, and a gravel road extends out to the horizon.
