As I walk through this wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity
I ask myself, "Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred and misery?"
And each time I feel like this inside
There's one thing I wanna know
What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?
drmag00.bsky.social
I want to imagine that.

Honestly, it needs to go further than this.

We need to confront the fact that democracy and wealth hoarding cannot coexist. Allowing people to amass the resources of a small state/country allows them to act as such, which is inimical to a shared society of “one person, one vote.”

“No Kings” is great , but we really don't get a functioning democracy back until we internalize, bone deep, the instinctive response to this and every other statement like it: “I don’t care what that rich guy thinks.”

Make it your morning affirmation. Say it ten times at the top of every hour.

Special education isn't a "nice thing to have." It isn't "charity" or doing something to make us feel better. It is a right. The right to a Free Appropriate Public Education is codified in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, signed by a Republican president.

MAGA fell for this fake line-up. Check out the last artist Lololol
A tweet from Graham Allen reads: “THIS WILL BE THE GREATEST HALF-TIME SHOW EVER!!! THIS 100% BEATS BAD BUNNY!!!” The attached poster reads “Turning Point USA: Kid Rock America’s Halftime Show” with a list of performers including Ted Nugent, Travis Tritt, Jason Aldean, Aaron Lewis, John Rich, Lee Greenwood, and Forgiato Blow, featuring a guest appearance from “Measles.” The design uses red, white, and blue patriotic motifs with an eagle and USA-themed graphics.

I believe...they think their dear leader is a King.
drmag00.bsky.social
But us protesting shouldn't lead to that, not in a functional country (which I know this one isn't, at a federal level).
drmag00.bsky.social
So if we protest, we can't have a government? What the fuck is he saying?

I had the same thought this morning. Not only that, but all the money for the logistics - the stages, the sound systems, the signage - no one is dropping $1B+ on the event secretly. People would be sharing photos of their $oro$ deposits, advertising to get friends to show up, etc.

Okay, already looking towards next season. Reviewed the potential free agents for the Cubs, and it's not a long list - Tucker, of course. A good chunk of the bullpen - Thielbar, Pomeranz, Keller, Kittredge (club option). Shota has an interesting contact status with a combo of club/player options.

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.
But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.
The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed. After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died.
While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants.
Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....

There can be no joy in change, in growth, in expansion of our understanding of what it means to be human, of art, of discovery - because to them, it’s all tainted & corrupted by the inclusion of anyone who isn’t in their little group.

Well, screw that.

And it’s Indigenous People’s Day, dickhead.

It talks about Columbus’ arrival in the Americas leading to “the ultimate triumph of Western civilization less than three centuries later on July 4, 1776.”

How just sad is it to think that we peaked nearly 250 years ago? Nothing since is better? They’re calcified in their narrow worldview.

Reading @hcrichardson.bsky.social tonight as she writes about Trump’s proclamation regarding Columbus Day, two things strike me. First, how staggeringly ahistorical, white, paternalistic, Christian Nationalist the whole thing is. And secondly, how sad their view of history is.
