Yes and in NI we have a clamour to tear up parts of the Climate Change Act to build the A5, as well as to let Lough Neagh fester in case we hurt the farmers. Popularity always trumps long term thinking, and we keep voting out the nagging voices who give a shit.

Cynical opinion: the leaders in question don't want to do anything that's unpopular, and the kind of actions that are needed to address climate change are electorally unpopular. We pick our politicians. If we want them to tackle climate change, we have to tell them that in the voting booth. 1/2
