This is a sad reminder that even after a child recovers from measles, they are not yet out of the woods — which is why it’s so important to make sure every child is protected through vaccination.

If I’m flying I’m masking.

I look at these results and ❓- how can we communicate it to the public?
These measures are hard to implement bc the public dislikes them. How can we make vistors understand that it is their loved ones who are protected by universal 😷 and limiting # of 🏥visitors?

Most Chicago hospitals use similar practices and Covid denialism is much less common here. When communicating, you have to be honest that it’s about risk reduction not perfection. Don’t be afraid of a little nuance. People are smart!

We use masking when community prevalence levels of any resp virus are high. We start with hcw masking for direct care and increase screening of visitors and encourage masking for them and we track hai resp virus cases. We have vanishingly low transmission in the hospital with this plan.

“We want to highlight the stories of Black prisoners that participated in this prison research in the 1950s onward and give them their due…they haven’t been properly acknowledged”

That’s good, but also worth noting that the Nazis approvingly referenced this research at the Nuremberg Trials.
New paper sheds light on experience of Black prisoners in infamous Illinois prison malaria experiments
The role of Black prisoners helped lead to the practice of using genetic testing to understand how patients will react to medications, according to the paper.

What a great question. The answer may be different for different people but I think all physicians have to consider how we would oppose dangerous health policy.

A health department identified a large pediatric TB exposure at a drop-in daycare. An academic medical center partnered with public health to establish a rapid-response TB Exposure Clinic. This article detailed the experience and challenges. (@asato4kids.bsky.social‬ et al)

Feeling a lot like I did in early days of the pandemic these days. It is so clear what’s coming: The people that will die because of cuts in global health, because of cuts to research, because of the concerted anti-vaccine push.
It’s clear what’s coming, but we will have to wait to count the dead.🧪

The novel approach to estimating the impact of public health interventions described in my newly published study in the Journal of Public Health Policy, suggests that the deeply flawed laissez faire approach to COVID would have nearly doubled COVID deaths. 🧪

I guess they’re not interested in tapping the ultra-lucrative infectious disease nerd market with this product, right @germhuntermd.bsky.social?
I see this box and think white out chest rads, ruptured eyeballs and draining tracts in the skin. Eww #IDSky
Jolly time buttered microwave popcorn. There’s a red bucket with yellow popcorn spilling out. Over this is the name of it, “BlastO Butter.”

“A Busy, Busy Day at the Airport”

By Ruben Bolling

Genius. Click in.
A cartoon showing various activity at an airport, including an extorted luxury jet, an exploding X rocket, a ketamine enthusiast wheeling a barrow of money to his plane, many ICE officers -- some taking people to an El Salvador plane, another with a zip-tied child being blocked by a federal judge -- scientists boarding a plane to Europe, a medical self-educator covered with pox, and more. All the people are represented by various animals. The story is made in the style of a Richard Starry children's book. Alt text borrowed from Mastodon..
