Nothing is determined. There is room to push back.

But let’s not pretend this isn’t exactly what it looks like: The regime is declaring all forms of dissent illegitimate and is preparing a massive crackdown on all forms of political and societal opposition.

They want to escalate. This is it.

BREAKING: Trump doesn't remember/believe/understand HE was president on January 6, 2021

This is how unstable, how mentally unbalanced, how much of a dangerous mixture of dishonesty and insanity Trump is:

"Biden's FBI?" By Jan. 6 2021, TRUMP had run the FBI for 1,448 days #25A

Diane Keaton in her Manhattan apartment with Buster, an Abyssinian, photographed by Jill Krementz in 1977
black & white photograph of young Diane Keaton smiling and standing next to a white refrigerator in a barren-looking kitchen. her cat Buster is crouched on top of the fridge playing with/swatting her hair in the upper right hand corner. she's wearing a long skinny white scarf with a dot-grid pattern, a high-neck white blouse with an ascot/kerchief around the neck, and a black blazer/skirt or blazer dress over what looks like a vest

Troopers just violently attacked protesters, tackled several, several arrests, shoving activists and press with batons.

I think it should be very clear to people that the Democratic elected officials in major cities do not have control of their police, or they are telling their police to beat their own citizens while out of the other side of their mouth, telling the citizen that they are there to protect them.

I’ve covered and participated in protests where cops worked with organizers and then stayed back a bit and they’ve always been peaceful. With very few exceptions, all of the violence I’ve seen at protests—and I’ve seen a huge amount—started with aggressive policing.

We need to consider whether these back and forths are a tactic in themselves. They've done it before, and it's almost as good for their purposes as firing people.

Seeing a lot of celebration of this as a win.

But at NIH we have seen this exact play before.

It looks like it is the Vought strategy -and to stop the lawless firings we have to see the bigger picture.

One of the many things I wish I had been wrong about is saying that back in the nineties, our leaders looked at climate change and said: We can’t do shit about this without measures we find unacceptable, so future generations will just have to deal with it via machine guns, fences and attack dogs.

If you think you know why US newspapers died, this feature documentary now streaming for free on PBS might surprise you. It wasn't the Internet. Newspapers were specifically targeted by vulture capitalists.

I composed the score for the film, which features electric cello & Crowfoot guitars.

vought justifies all of this as a vision of "separation of powers" — an idea that i'm more and more convinced doesn't actually exist, at least not in any strong form, in the constitution — but the thing that comes across is his basic contempt for representative government

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine

Via: www.nbcnews.com/politics/tru...
The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.

A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.

This is so uncontroversial of a fact at this point that you can find it in even the revised books of the most vitriolic and racist of the New Historian authors, Benny Morris.

The amount of times that I have had to repeat, over and over and over to people, that en masse expulsion of Palestinians did not begin in May 1948 but in fact in the fall of 1947, more than half a year prior to what's known as the "first Arab-Israeli war", is frankly astonishing.

So if Russ Vought and Bob Kennedy were deliberately trying on behalf of an enemy to sicken and kill Americans by destroying the public health structure - what would they be doing differently?

cmyeaton.bsky.social
I can't get over how the CDC layoffs are coming less than two months after the attempted mass shooting. The agency is being taken apart brick by brick. The public servants there do not deserve this.

I think people also forget that there were civil rights protests for *100 years.* activists protested and lobbied constantly from the end of reconstruction through the 50s and 60s. mostly they were just ignored, beaten, jailed. 1

“From the first children’s march on May 2 [1963], The New York Times published more stories about race in the next two weeks than in the previous year.” — Taylor Branch, “The King Years”

I’m not an advocate and don’t have a dog in these fights, but these sort of ahistorical takes frustrate me.
volts.wtf
Turns out protest alone was never what changed things, it was protest *plus media coverage of protests*, which prompted officials to respond to protests, which increased public awareness of protests, etc.

If the protest happens & corporate media simply ignores it ... it's inert.
