I have no idea where my midpoint will be but I imagine it'll be round about the point people start to think my MC is actually a pretty decent guy and can do no wrong. #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompt #WriteSky

15. The midpoint of the story serves two purposes: (1) it reveals critical information to the MC and (2) causes the MC to confront both who they used to be and who they need to become to grow, change, and/or achieve their goals. What are some ways you could do this?

Endings of my stories are multilayered — main characters are changed by what happens to them & their own agency. My current WIP is no different. I’m solid on much of the ending, but internally debating on relationship resolution. Will they? Won’t they? 🤔

I think my midpoint has to be the twins meeting each other again after being separated for a long time. Clara got lost outside of Arx Lucis in the inciting incident, and has since been trying to get back into the city, while Mem works inside the city to get the means to save her...🧵

Current midpoint setting: midwinter, night time, gen. Quol and Iris on a speeding ice scimmer on Thavon, Villerdia’s biggest lake, with the sky full of Sadd’hor monsters and water 'wyves' lurking beneath the surface. Sounds relaxing, doesn’t it?

At the midpoint, Lex learns that the Katorgans require all outsiders who want to join them to forsake all former ties. She also learns that someone isn’t the person she thought she knew. Meanwhile, Daemrin learns how much of the Trial of Succession is stacked against him. #PlotTober

I am thinking the midpoint will be when they reach the Fain Ruins. The MCs will meet some unexpected ghosts, Spencer will have to confront some preconceived notions, and a lot of new / clarifying info will be revealed. Wren will... 🧵

Wedding bells (not for Alexander, lol) and, if we're continuing a tradition, jumping out a window…

A series motif is evil being punished/unpunished. I think the sympathetic characters are rescued, but the "bad" guys houdini away. Alexander challenges/gets challenged on if this is good. +

Not as certain on the ending. Obviously, Ace love witch & rival will stop whatever shenanigans rival’s ex is doing (curse on rival, negative magic in area, whatever).

At this point, I'll be happy if I come with an ending that I'm satisfied with. Given the general silence from the people I've asked to beta read the prequel to my WIP, I'm assuming no one will ever want to read it, no matter how good i make it

Answering this for both book 1 & the whole series. This post will be vague; following posts will be more spoilery.

Book 1: Ends with the twins in direct conflict, & a cliffhanger with a big twist reveal.

Series: Happy ending! All truths are revealed & a more just world is reborn.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

Happy Thanksgiving.

This year, we have two significant things to be thankful for:

We aren't Americans (which is the reason for the season, up here, going back to 1814.)

Pierre Poilievre did not form the government this Spring.

Growing into the person he could potentially be, in this case, means that Josh successfully takes over Alternate Josh's life.

So, I suppose in this case, the unwitting antagonist would be Alternate Josh, simply by the fact that he would prefer not to be murdered. 🧵

#PlotTober Day 12 is "Antagonists" - of which there are none in First Light. Rather, the opposing force is culture shock, inner demons, and the dangers of an unsafe physical environment. 1/3
