Buncha MOOC bros are still influential education writers. I feel like once you’ve written “the end of college” you don’t get to keep writing about college when it doesn’t happen.
Remember the Year of the MOOC from a decade ago? The one where tech bros predicted the end of all but 3-4 universities because who needs campuses when everyone can just take MOOCs and learn everything? Hits a little different now after pandemic pedagogy, huh? The tech hype cycle is a helluva drug.

I hate the phrase “history doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes” Like, what does that even mean? Nobody who says that history repeats itself means in the literal sense. people understand that when you say “history is repeating itself” you are referring to patterns not a literal pantomime of a previous time

I think it gets under my skin because it points to this sort of cultural commitment to centrism, we can’t admit when certain things draw pretty distinct parallels to earlier points in history, we have to cushion it with “but not really, because history can’t actually literally repeat hyuck”

You know, it reminds me of medieval cathedrals at this point. Huge edifices that took literal generations to complete, a vast investment of resources: time, materials, money, even lives. All for the glory of god, because people thought (as they always do) they were living in the End Times.
OpenAI’s planned data centers will use more power than New York City & San Diego use at their peak consumption, combined. More power than the entire nations of Switzerland & Portugal combined. And San Altman’s buddies in this administration have been cutting all of our energy infrastructure upgrades
Sam Altman’s AI empire will devour as much power as New York City and San Diego combined. Experts say it’s ‘scary’ | Fortune
Andrew Chien told Fortune he’s been a computer scientist for 40 years but we’re close to “some seminal moments for how we think about AI and its impact on society.”

Worried about the consequences for humanity if the Canadian folk trio The Once, the K-pop girl group Twice, and the alt-rock band Thrice were ever brought together under one roof
Things didn't work out so well for Ivan IV or the oprichniks either
There's no reason to treat this president, validly elected or not, as legitimate. Not when he's having states whose politics he likes invade states with politics he doesn't.

Went for a walk the other week and came across this sweat bee perched perfectly in the middle of a fall-blooming aster

Yeah, I'm judging them. Between Stack Exchange, Reddit, YouTube tutorials, and most major programs' own extensive online documentation, it's easier now than at any point in history to Learn How to Do Stuff Properly
Anyway, that crossed my mind while responding to an email from someone who appears to have been spacing to start new lines for over two decades now
I was in high school and remember that most people, instead of looking up how to disable paragraph spacing, hit the space bar a bunch of times to reach a new line without creating a paragraph break
Remember when the 2007 version of MS Word came out? It introduced the ribbon interface, and also increased line spacing between paragraphs by default
