When I’m just trying to have a goddamned nap around here
I mean it would be nice but there's a lot of things I want that I don't have any particular reason to think are going to happen anytime soon
Like the first two episodes I thought “is this like Calais or is he over there on some weird Anglo-French police exchange”
The new Maigret series is weird because it’s in France but everyone is British

I guess the original adaptation was like that too?

Obviously I make exceptions for laughing at comedies or “don’t go in there” in horror movies, stuff that’s involuntary
Okay but really how hard is it to not talk or check your phone at the movies

It’s like a few hours
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
I believe this is a joke post, referencing something someone said on X about the AEW deathmatch

Everyone's wondering who robbed the Louvre, but no one is putting 2 and 2 together and realizing that Mortdecai has been surprisingly quiet on social media.

bunch of rednecks sitting around a bonfire on a very clearly cold night. the one sitting on the back steps, he spits and says "Dracula, huh?"

everyone nods and mumbles in agreement

the dude still sitting in his truck says, "We gotta go get that mother fucker"

in this seven-film pitch, I will
20th Century Fox lost a million on Phantom of the Paradise and turned around and spent the exact same amount on Rocky Horror because I dunno do you have any better ideas
This is also why the New Hollywood was such a fertile breeding ground- the studios didn’t know what they wanted so sure, give Altman a couple of million to do a movie about country music, maybe it’ll pay off
Even after Batman a lot of blockbuster filmmaking was still guesswork and chasing the success guys like Spielberg and Lucas had found just making movies they wanted to see. Studios still interfered but a lot of stuff slipped through because they had no idea what they wanted.
I think it’s less “no one knows how” and more that THEY didn’t really know how at the time and a failed blockbuster like this feels more like they’re trying shit and less like an assembly line.
What, at the time, seemed like a middling adventure film and a typically hohum Disney live action outing, now feels like a copper bottomed classic by dint of the fact that no one knows how to make this kind of picture anymore.
