Moving to Norway be like:

- Can't sign a rental agreement until I have a Norwegian bank account.
- Can't get a bank account without a Norwegian ID number.
- Can't get a Norwegian ID number without having a rental contract.

It is absolutely hilarious to me how some people think immigration is easy.

“Isn’t horrible that billionaires can’t just buy a university, fire all the tenure faculty, and remake it in their image like Bezos did with the Post?”

That’s the question posed by Trump’s Compact.

This piece is unbelievably naive. Brooks spends most of it showing how societal factors like screens and COVID contributed to US education’s decline, then pivots to blaming equity policies (based purely on anecdotal evidence) that can’t be separated from the broader social factors.

My quote of the day

We have managed to unite a country tearing down the barriers the regime built to divide us. Ours is a fight of a nation united against a criminal tyranny, in defense of its human rights, freedom, and democracy. That is why we have no alternative but victory

I’m seeing “hot takes” claiming Machado’s award was just a troll against Trump. Stop with that misogynistic nonsense. She’s risked her life and liberty opposing an authoritarian regime with courage and creativity. She has absolutely earned this.

This! Students need to take, and be given, ownership and ability to develop their own project.

I stressed to the grad students that they have to take ownership of their research. I’ll advise but they have to be willing to try, fail, take critique, and try again. That’s the game students.

Talking to Congressional staff is a great way for scientists to inform Congress about the impact of science in their state and the nation. We just had a superb meeting with Abigail Lancaster of NC Senator Budd's office. She was knowledgeable and emphasized their support for science funding 1/2
flscitriguy.bsky.social
My portfolio had 100s of UG & Grad students lose their funding in the previous 9mo. PIs that had their training programs canceled for bogus reasons. I’m ok holding out for congress to get a spine and remember it’s a system of checks & balances.

Ah, a classic moment of @nature.com recognizing the scientific contributions of both genders: man and machine.
profannawatts.bsky.social
Lol the Nobels can't even acknowledge women's contribution to discovery. But sure let's acknowledge The Machines.
Headline from an article in Nature this week that states "Prizes must recognize machine contributions to discovery. The future of science will be written by humans and machines together. Awards should reflect that reality."

Casey Means left her surgical residency in 2018. She's frequently suggested Americans should question advice from medical authorities.

Now, she’s HHS Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s pick for surgeon general, one of the nation’s most trusted medical posts. https://wapo.st/3KMq0im

Besides linking Tylenol in pregnant women to autism, RFK Jr. now says circumcision is part of the reason why kids are autistic.

"Children who are circumcised early have double the rate of autism, and it's highly likely because they're given Tylenol. None of this is positive..."
