Most people have a hard time staying closed off when faced with aggressive smiling and polite friendliness as long as you aren’t trying to get them to join religion.

Befriending people is a skill and you can learn how in these simple steps
1. Learn to smile genuinely
2. Let them speak and feel heard
3. Don’t abruptly change topics, segue gracefully
4. Laugh at yourself when you get awkward or if you misspeak
5. Apologize if they have a weird reaction to anything
