Isard was one of the best Star Wars villains because unlike Thrawn or Daala or even Nom Anor, she had no redeeming qualities. Just pure ambition and hate, just like the Emperor. Stackpole never once tried to make you like her or think she might be right.

The Aftermath trilogy was also basically just a giant middle finger to any post-RotJ storytelling leading up to the Sequel Trilogy, since it can only really be described as 'let's break all the toys so nobody else can play with them!'
